I was feeling embarassed I hadn’t sent a friend in Iraq a care package so my wife and I checked it out the other day.
Here’s the scoop
The Post Office has two sizes of Priority Mail Boxes for $9 – yes only NINE BUCKS no matter what you stuff in it. One is thin and long and the other like a shoebox roughly. We are going to send reading material in one and food/hygiene products in the other. If you know someone, have a friend. Please please do this. I just wrote my letter to my friend and its tough to do, but I hope when he gets the box it helps make his and his buddies day a little better. I look at my little girl and I know my young friend and his pals are the difference in my life and freedom every day – as it has been for 230 years against all tyrannical comers.
There are tons of suggestions out there but here are thoughts I’ve gathered on gifts and from his parents.
nuts, cookies, individual licorice, jelly beans
nice boot socks
magazines of interest (outdoor, wrestling, etc.)
ziploc bags
cards
TicTac/Altoid
Lip Balm
cd/dvd
canned oysters/sardines
hot cocoa
icy hot patches, balm
foot powder
I’m sure many of you have even better suggestions.
If any of you don’t know someone over there and want to adopt a guy/unit, let me know and I’ll give you my family’s friend son’s address over there.
It’s hard to imagine a little kid fishing with me at a sandpit one day and now in Iraq. What a world. Thanks for people like him and I pray for his safety.
