Well, I’ve been slowly getting my ducks lined up for my next career/passion, as a fishing guide. After getting my USCG Captains license and Wisconsin Guide license early this year, and recently forming an LLC, I’m ready to shop for the insurance. Have guided a few trips already, but am hesitant to continue without proper liability insurance. Only planning on guiding about 20 or so trips per year, for the next 2 to 3 years, during the transition. Can any of you shed some light on the type of insurance you carry, and suggest some possible carriers to check with??

The past 10 years I’ve had insurance thru old united at a tune of $750.00 a year. My mom is an insurance angent and this was the only reasonable place to insure guides. I talked to boat us and they will not insure guides but have no problem with tournament people . Look around and get several quotes, some are really high and make sure you look over the coverage like some will not cover you on the great lakes, ect.

I do not have any personal knowledge of these, but I was given these as possibilities:
    Bass Boat Insurance 800-476-5667
    Anglers Advantage
    United Marine Underwriters unitedmarine.net

    Hope this helps.

Anglers Advantage, a.k.a. Old United Casualty Company is hands down the best you can go with as a guide. I’ve been with them for many years now, and wouldn’t think of ever switching.

Contact Lynne and she will answer all your questions.

Make sure you ask to get a Professional Liability endorsement if you go with Anglers Advantage. I have read their policy language and it is not the best product on the market. Jack you better check who is covering the liability exposure you have when you are not in your boat, but acting in a professional manner.

Just spoke with Lynne…wow!…talk about good service and enthusiasm. Very helpful, and quoted me a premium on the phone. Getting the application via email.
You’re right about the non-coverage for out-of-the-boat liabilities. Need an endorsement for that. Thanks for the feedback, guys. gonna check with a couple more, but this one sounds good.
