I am writing to you with a heart so heavy I can hardly stand it. Chris’s (RedneckJr) best friend is Colten (Sledhead) mentioned in the above post. I know his Dad Tim from our boys being friends forever. Colten is very active on this website and really does consider this an extended family so that is why I am writing.
Let me give you a little background. Last Fall Tim was a big strapping diesel mechanic who worked at Minneapolis St. Paul airport. One day he wasn’t feeling well and thought it was the flu. It didn’t go away so he thought it might be his appendix so he went to the Doctor. He walked out of the doctor’s office with a diagnosis of terminal cancer. They got a second opinion from Mayo and Mayo thought they could beat it. He went through several surgeries and chemo and all looked good. When he went back in late March of this year the cancer was back and there was nothing they could do. Since that point he and his family have been enjoying their time together and knowing that time is short.
It is one of the saddest things I have ever seen. Tim gets up everyday and cherishes his kids knowing that in the VERY NEAR future he won’t be there for them. I heard from Chris that Tim will be going into the hospital before Christmas “for the last time”. A neighbor lady told me she heard it was progressing faster and that the date may be nearer the end of November. One of the parts that bothers me the most is Colten’s little sister. She is a real Daddy’s girl and it breaks my heart to think of her when this all happens. Sierra used to always walk by our house on her way home from school. They only live a block from the school. Every day when she would walk by she would tell Chris Hi and make conversation. This Fall I haven’t seen her and I asked Chris about it. It turns out that Tim has been picking her up every day at school and giving her a ride home (for a block). I think he is trying to squeeze in every moment.

I know this site is special to Colten and his family is definitely hurting right now.
I always tell everyone this is a family website but right now we have a chance to be a website that is family. I think if we could some way reach out to the family then that would mean so much. Think of being in Tim’s shoes right now, waking up knowing that in the near future you WILL be gone and you family we have to carry on. It is such a tragic thought. The family is religious and they will get through this but I am just looking for some way to let them know that Colten has found something special.

As a friend I will be there so I will do what I can. I am just hoping something good can come out of this tragic situation.
    Thanks for listening.

Sled, all I can say is I truely believe that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason isn’t clear for years…sometimes it’s never clear..and sometimes these things are not of our liking.

Personally speaking, shoot me a pm if you need to talk or if I can be of any assistance. That goes for your dad too.

If God only gave me a magic wand.

My wife, kids, and I made it to the event and it appeared to be a success. Lots of folks and tons of items. Talked to Tim’s wife Deb who we had not seen in years. She seemed to be holding up well. My daughter bid on and got a Barbie gift bag and I got a golf bag. Yes Brian I do golf

Anyway, the Berghuis family are great folks and I hope they got a lot of help today.

Wish I had known you were there DD, we could have met. The turn out was amazing considering how nice a day it was. Pool 4 was calling but not nearly loud enough to keep me away from the benefit.
