My 33 year old nephew had a massive stroke Friday night. Unfortunately, this is a fatal stroke, and the doctors say it’ll be between 1 and 4 days before he passes. Our only good note in this whole thing is that he had indicated his desire to be an organ donor.

Soon, arrangements will be in order to donate many of his organs, so that at least something good can come from a terrible situation. Maybe some child needing a kidney or liver can live because Jeff died.

Take the time, guys, to fill out the papaerwork to be a donor, and also ensure you have a living will. At 33, he didn’t think he would die, but because he had paperwork all done most of the tragic decisions were made by him, and not by us, his family.

God Bless you Jeff, my good friend, nephew, fisherman, and great kid.

We’re very sorry to here of your early loss Dave.

The time it takes to become a donor is a couple checks on your license application when it’s renewed. A living will takes more time…all of 15 minutes. The form can be picked up at your local hospital or clinic.

When a loved one passes, it’s so much easier (if it can be called that) to have their wishes made by them.

I drive two days a week and a lot of my riders are going to dialysis. They start at 530-600 a.m. and may have to be there for 5 hours. They go three days a week. If you can donate a kidney you can change a persons life. Check it out it’s easy to be a donor. Make sure your family knows they lose a lot of donors because the family didn’t know.
Hats off to your nephew Dave he’s a hero. God Bless!

    Dave,
Sorry to hear about your nephew. That is so sad and at such a young age. It is never easy to have to deal with a tragedy like this or death, aspecially a close relative. That is awesome that his organs will be donated to give life to others. He will live on through each one of the recipeants. My thoughts and prayers for God’s peace and comfort go out to you and all of your family in this trying time.

Thanks for all the support. We will know soon if Jeff can live on in someone else. That would be great. It’s good to know he spent his final weekend alive fishing on Minnetonka.

My sympathy to you and your family….I agree with others that have mentioned making sure that your families are aware of your wishes if you truly want to be a donor…Your nephew’s gift of donation can help many others either through organs, bone or tissue….

I am happy to report that 5 people live on with my nephew’s organ donation. We feel great that a woman now has his heart beating in her chest. She’ll become a better fisherwoman I’m sure. Jeff’s pancreas, 2 kidneys, and his liver were also transplanted to wating recipients. It makes my day a little brighter.

Jeff’s funeral is tomorrow. He is being cremated and his ashes are going into his favorite tackle box instead of an urn. He would have liked it that way. Half of the ashes will be spread into his favorite lake in the spring.

    Dave,
    My sympathy as well.
I’m not an organ donor, but I think there’s a great chance that may soon change. My girlfriend tells me she is, and she may have talked me into it as well.
