Dman points out my observation! 2 EX-Viking QB’s! I knew Gannon was having some issues performance wise when he left but I remember watching him as a 3rd stringer and thinking he had some real potential. Gannon never had the team at it’s best chemistry and he was very young when his day to play came. I wondered to myself why Denny didn’t want to develop young talent? Anyway, he moved on and it’s great to see him getting his day in the spotlight! MVP of the year! Way cool!
I remember in ’98 when Moss was new and Johnson was injured so Cunningham led the team to the playoffs. Johnson was healthy enough to play but Green kept Cunningham in as the starter. Problem? yeah, Johnson had the arm to keep Moss running. Do that and no one could touch him! He always had to slow down for the ball from Cunningham’s arm, thus allowing our “secret weapon” to become not-so-unstoppable. Johnson should have been given the playoffs. He played 6 of 16, undefeated, 2 of which were come-from-behind wins by his leadership and playing ability. In spite of Cunningham’s tremendous contribution to the team that year, Johnson should have been the starter…………and it was said so by Randall himself in a couple of differing interviews.
So, for me, a fan of both QB’s during their tenures here in MN, I’m just tickled to see them both get a shot at the ultimate win – a Superbowl Trophy!
I wouldn’t waste my breath rooting for either team, but I’ll be perplexed whether I should root for Gannon or root for Johnson?!?!?!?
