in reference to their playoff loss last year it was the defense that let them down they did score some points (in the 20s i think) which should have been enough for a bear team to win. any dolphin fans here? if so they wont be our spoiler this year

No need for the fins to spoil anything for the Bears. The Patriots will do that at Foxboro. Brady, Belichick, and co. will not choke away a big game at home like Denny “Big Game” Green, Neil Rackers and the rest of the Cards did on Monday night.

This year’s Bears squad reminds me of the 2001 Bears, rather than the 1985 bunch. The 1985 Bears destroyed most of their opponents; the 2001 Bears won about four games on Mike Brown “walk-off” INTs for touchdowns, sparking a lot of “team of destiny” talk like Lovie Smith spouted Monday night. The 2001 Bears rode those miracle wins to an inflated record (13-3, I believe), and were quickly dispatched in their first playoff game. I also don’t remember Jim McMahon having six turnovers in a game against a 1-4 perpetual loser like the Cardinals.

If we follow the reasoning of Bears fans on this site, who hold that the Vikings are terrible, it doesn’t say much for the Bears that they needed a late fourth quarter fumble to beat them.

The Cardinals, incidentally, choked away another fourteen point lead two weeks ago to a 2-3 Kansas City team that subsequently lost 45-7 to Pittsburgh. By the logic expressed by one Bears fan that the Cardinals are “the best team the Bears have played”, then we can reasonably say that the Bears are in fact no better than Kansas City, since the Bears haven’t played anyone good.

But then, this was the same Bears fan who cited Grossman’s lower pass completion rate and lower QB rating when compared to Brad Johnson’s numbers in the Vikings-Bears game to argue that Grossman was the better QB, so I would take the above reasoning with a grain of salt.

what is the chance the twins win the world series this year…… NONE!!!!!! (Quote)

And what are the chances of the Cubs EVER winning a world series, or even getting there? Are there odds that minute??

And I thought only Packer fans fell back on Super Bowls that happened before they were born when they had nowhere else to turn…

The Bears fan in question claimed that Brad Johnson had a worse game than Grossman and “really sucked.” To back this case, the Bear fan in question cited Johnson and Grossman’s pass attempts and total yardage, which showed Johnson had a higher completion rate than Grossman (who also had an INT returned for a touchdown). How this proved Grossman was a better QB was never explained.

And why is it, given this Bears fan’s reasoning regarding the Bears and Vikings, that being a Cubs fan is something to be proud of, when the Cubs haven’t won a World Series in almost a century, and have “chocked” (I assume the fan in question meant “choked”) in every one of their rare playoff appearances since? By this fan’s logic, Twins fans, who have seen their team win two World Series in the last twenty years, have clear bragging rights, since the Twins won their division this past year while the Cubs lost nearly 100 games. The Twins also pasted the Cubs in interleague play.

Oh well, I guess it is easier to keep saying “the Bears have a better record” than to try and explain how any of this makes sense.

No one here was guaranteeing the Vikings would have a better record than the Bears at season’s end, myself included. I am saying that certain Bear fans need to look at their team a little closer before calling them “the best in the NFL” or a threat to the 1972 Dolphins’ perfect record. I have seen nothing from the Bears (and their fans) to show that the 2006 Bears are a great team, as opposed to a good one. Out-of-left-field referrences to the Twins, paraphrasing TV announcers, and shaky arguments will not do that.
