in reference to their playoff loss last year it was the defense that let them down they did score some points (in the 20s i think) which should have been enough for a bear team to win. any dolphin fans here? if so they wont be our spoiler this year
No need for the fins to spoil anything for the Bears. The Patriots will do that at Foxboro. Brady, Belichick, and co. will not choke away a big game at home like Denny “Big Game” Green, Neil Rackers and the rest of the Cards did on Monday night.
This year’s Bears squad reminds me of the 2001 Bears, rather than the 1985 bunch. The 1985 Bears destroyed most of their opponents; the 2001 Bears won about four games on Mike Brown “walk-off” INTs for touchdowns, sparking a lot of “team of destiny” talk like Lovie Smith spouted Monday night. The 2001 Bears rode those miracle wins to an inflated record (13-3, I believe), and were quickly dispatched in their first playoff game. I also don’t remember Jim McMahon having six turnovers in a game against a 1-4 perpetual loser like the Cardinals.
If we follow the reasoning of Bears fans on this site, who hold that the Vikings are terrible, it doesn’t say much for the Bears that they needed a late fourth quarter fumble to beat them.
The Cardinals, incidentally, choked away another fourteen point lead two weeks ago to a 2-3 Kansas City team that subsequently lost 45-7 to Pittsburgh. By the logic expressed by one Bears fan that the Cardinals are “the best team the Bears have played”, then we can reasonably say that the Bears are in fact no better than Kansas City, since the Bears haven’t played anyone good.
But then, this was the same Bears fan who cited Grossman’s lower pass completion rate and lower QB rating when compared to Brad Johnson’s numbers in the Vikings-Bears game to argue that Grossman was the better QB, so I would take the above reasoning with a grain of salt.
