Vikings-Bears Game

At halftime, the Vikings lead 6-3 in a classic defensive field position battle sort of game. Chester Taylor is proving his worth, and the Vikings defense has so far held Grossman in check with one INT, and a couple more passes that could have/should have been picked off. Right now, it is clear that the Bears numbers from their first two games were inflated by playing poor opposition. Three points at half-time is not the mark of a first-class offense. On the other hand, the Vikings are having trouble holding on to the ball after receptions, and the Beats defense is not over-hyped.

I expect this game to stay close in the second half, with whoever gets the big turnover winning the game. Since Grossman is inexperienced and not looking so great against a good defense, I expect the Vikings to take advantage of another bad throw or two by Grossman. Final score prediction: Minnesota 16, Chicago 6.

i was thinking 13-9, with the Vikes defense scoring the only TD! I’ll take either score, as long as purple ends up on top.

I’m a Bears fan but I have to say it is a very good defensive game and the stats they showed shows both teams very close Bears 5.7 yards and Vikings 5.8 yards. I’m not making any predictions on the game but these 2 will be fighting it out for the division title. I’m impressed by how much the Vikings have improved since Culpepper left, I hope these 2 have some great years ahead of them but with Brad Johnson being the oldest player playing in the league you never know. I’m rooting for the Bears but if the Vikings win they desreve it!!!

WOW what a game, I think the Bears better keep looking over there shoulder, I thought Grossman played well against a very good defense, I always wondered why Lovey Smith was so persistant on Grossman, now I understand.

Yup, the Bears won it fair and square. A badly-timed fumble gave them their opportunity and some questionable play-calling on the Vikings’ last possession put the game away. The Bears are the leaders of the NFC North…for now.

What was the deal with Hutchenson, anyway?

Wow, if we could have just dropped the 4th quarter, my guess would have been right on, but the Bears proved their metal in that fourth. Great game to watch either way.
I was very impressed with the Vikes “D” this game. What a refreshing new look, without all the in your face flash that they have shown over the last decade. Back to tough, in the trenches football team that they used to be.

Pretty good day at my house. Got my first grouse of the year, Packers won and the Vikes lost.

I know we probably aren’t gonna compete for any playoff spots but hey, We won.

being a vikings fan for hundreds of years, it was a very hard fought game. too many penaltys, hind sight is what 20/20, but whoever called for that long bomb on 4th down………sucked. all we needed was a first down and then throw the bomb.

Tough game for the Purple, as someone said earlier, way too many penalties and some very questionable calls on offense. Hats off to the Bears for hanging in there and winning a close game. The Vikings and Bears will battle for the central division title.

Be very carefull ripping the Peckers errrrrrr Packers.

They will give the Vikings all they can handle if the Vikings don’t find a way to score a touchdown. The defense will only hold up as long as the offense can continue to grind out first downs. Once the defense gets tired it’s all over but the crying. Ya need to score touchdowns in this league to force the other team to keep up.

The Vikings have played 3 of the top defenses in the league last year. Looking at the schedule, things dont get a lot easier.

Their offense will be OK this year.

Considering the Pack has given up an everage of 28 points per game to some pretty weak teams. Just pray they make it out alive at Metrodome.

I had 2 questions answered. Are the Vikings really that good, & more importantly, are the Bears that good ? The answer was yes and yes. Although whoever called for the lob on 4th and 2, should be strung up.

    The Vike’s defense looks/performs great!

However, I’m quite troubled at the fact that we just can’t get a TD!!!!! And 3rd down conversion are weak!!!!

If we can’t score TD’s, our “luck” is only going to last so long. If it wasn’t for the defense covering us and making half the score-board points, we could easily be sitting at 0-3!

Being a die hard Packer fan I must admit their defense is shaky, even scary. Nonetheless, when the Pack and Vikings meet you never know. Except for a few blunders by the Pack these teams could have identical records.

As usual the bears pull through. Grossman was having a bad game. Guess you can’t have great games every week but oh well a win is a win and now 3 and 0 beating all the times in the Central division already puts them on top for a while.

I think ego manic Lovie Smith said the same thing about Grossman. Having purple jerseys in your face the whole game would probably make me have a bad game as well..

No not really he just didn’t look good. I will wait till detroit or green bay plays the vikings. I still think the the vikings are a fluke and the bears just flat out had a bad game. HA HA I wonder how many quotes this will get.

Hey Derek, ease up on Grossman. Right next to Brett Favre he is my favorite football player. If the Bears did not have him they could actually be a contender for the superbowl.

Seriously guys, you cannot really believe that Grossman is even a mediocre QB. I can think of more than a few NCAA quaterbacks that can respond to pressure better than he can. The Bears have a good defense, a good receiving corp, good running backs and a terrible QB. It is what it is.

That being said, I thought the game Sunday was a very good one. I like it when the men in the trenches lay it all out for the entire 60 minutes. I can’t wait for round 2.

I agree. Grossman has only played 11 games in the last 4 years yet Lovie thinks hes Joe Montana. Time will tell. Lets hope he can develop into a great QB. Those are hard to come by these days.. And round two?… Well.. lets just say i’ll have my eyes closed for that one..

If grossman is bad then brad johnson just plain sucks. He are the QB stats from last sunday.

    Rex Grossman 23/41 278

    Brad Johnson 21/31 194

For some reason also grossman is one of the top QB’s in the NFL right now as well so actually he really isn’t all that bad. Looked alot better than farve as well when they played the packers.

Giving that Johnson is being asked just don’t lose the game so I hope Grossman had better stats. And comparing him to Favre at this point in his carrer is just plain sad Not a packer fan but that is terrible comparison. Grossman looked good at time but he made some bad decisions If Sharper holds on there is six and Winfield did take one back on him. He is not elite status
