How come you don’t need a license to be a parent??

Last night I had a few hours to get some fishing in with my son. As we returned to the landing I noticed two little kids, maybe three or four years old on the dock at the landing. I asked where their parents were and they told me they were by themselves. So many things came to my mind, namely how does a parent allow two small kids to take off. I was at the Hardees landing at Clinton Street. I walked these two little guys home. They had to walk through a park and then they had to cross Rose Street (a very busy avenue) by themselves. Neither kid was wearing a jacket or shoes. Some many different things could have happened to these two, such as fall in the river or grabbed by some creep. I will never understand how people don’t know where their small children are every minute of every day.

You should have called the police. These kids need some help to protect them from their parents. I have called the police several times in similar situations.

I work with kids, and deal every day with people who seem to have not a care for the health or wellbeing of their children, and it makes me . 99% of the behavior issues I deal with in working with troubled youth are a direct result of parents who won’t buck up to their responsibilities. Absolutely call your local authorities, then the dept. of human services gets involved and eventually the kids will get what they need.

“need a license to be a parent”….it’s funny, but the bad part is, it’s true in lots of cases, just like this one.

Stories like that burn my Or the ones that walk 10 feet infront of their toddlers in a busy store or airport, some creep could nab them so fast..

WOW! I had to bring this thread back after listening to KQRS this morning. Did anyone else hear this story on a drunk 3 year old home with 11 kids and Grandma(who was also drinking). There was four extremely intoxicated adults there too. UNREAL. Start up the licensing bureau.

You need a license to fish, hunt, etc. You need a permit to put a new deck on your house. You need permission to do just about anything. But the most important decision you make in your life, goes without. Doesn’t seem to make sense. I would love to be the one who got to tell people, sorry application rejected. You’re too big of a loser to have a child.

Very sad when parents don’t care about their own kids.

I like the idea, but it would lead to lawsuits by denied parents.

However, parents should be required to take a class or two b/f jr comes home from the hospital.
