Tom….its very difficult to get “true” archs on any type of sonar!!! The fish has to swim perfectly within the cone angle in order to get this arch!!!! Often times you will find a longer line or sometimes just a partial arch…Both of these will represent fish! I does take a little time on the water to figure out your 480!!
    I hope this helps…

Cal is right.. In order to see clean arches, your boat must be moving over a stationary fish. Your transducer must also be properly aligned. Just a few degrees off and you’ll most likely see half arches. You might need to play with the transducer alignment. But dont expect arches like the ones on the package. You’ll see them from time to time..

Check out the link http://www.lowrance.com/Tutorials/Sonar/sonar_tutorial_10.asp Kind of basic, but I found it good reading last week, and I read it more than a couple times in the past.

Ahhhh I found the link I really wanted to show you, though slightly specfic to a 337, this really explains a lot in general, I found this was a really good read. http://www.lowrance.com/Manuals/Files/LMS-337CDF_0156-071_121704.pdf#search=”LMS-337CDF_0156-071_121704.pdf”%5D Check this one out, btw it’s like a 6meg file, so if you on dial up, be prepared for a little wait, but it’s worth it.
