This photo was taken by a soldier in Afghanistan of a helo rescue mission.
The pilot is a PA Guard guy who flies EMS choppers in civilian life. Now how
many people on the planet you reckon could set the [censored] end of a chopper down
on the roof top of a shack on a steep mountain cliff and hold it there while
soldiers load wounded men in the rear??? If this does not impress you …
nothing ever will. Gives me the chills and a serious case of the vertigo …
I can’t even imagine having the nerve … much less the talent and ability .
    God Bless our military!!!!!

I’ve seen the Apache and Black Hawk pilots do some things that defy the imagination while I was in theater, but that, with a Chinook, really takes the cake. Looks real to my untrained eye, and people like that guy, with the testicular fortitude to put their lives on the line in such a way are what makes our nation what it is. Hoorah!

I would have to say that is a real pic. As Sean said, the Apaches and Black Hawks were pretty cool at the acrobatics they could perform.

That is a neat picture. Not to down play our military or have any doubts of there abilities since I served ten years myself. But the picture may just be another patch job. Not much debris blowing around and the trees really don’t look like they are giving much from the force of air one of those big hogs throw out..

Kind of on the same subject, but tonight I saw a Huey higher than I have ever seen a copter fly! I could not even hear the engine or blades!
    Weird.

Snopes.com says this is the real deal. Taken in 2003, only discrepancy is that they’re picking up PUC’s for the 10th mountain, not wounded.

    Tuck;

Where was the Huey??? The Army has just about completely gotten rid of them. On a side note though, in the old days, we could go as high as 15,000ft to drop off HALO’s.

Thanks Sean for clearing that up for me..
The older I get the worse the eyes get. But then again maybe it is just me being skeptical about the stuff one sees on the internet.
But real it is then I know that pilot has to be one of the best I have ever seen…

    Gary,

I know that the guard in some places still carries the old huey airframe, not sure about Minn. though.

Now that’s way out of the box. They don’t advise to try that at home.

I would think that is a valid picture. I flew in those in Nam, CH47 Chinook, and they are pretty adgile for their size. We used to put them on a ship with a pitch and roll of as much as 9 feet….not the easiest thing to do, lots of damaged landing gears. BTW I didn’t pilot them, I was a corpsman with the 1st MAW, 363rd MedEvac. The pilots were Navy, the best in the world.
