Vikings Win Season Opener

The Vikings just beat the ‘skins, in what was generally an impressive win. The Johnson-over-Culpepper decision certainly looks good after last Thursday’s Miami game for DC vs. Johnson’s mistake-free performance tonight. The offensive line looked much better than last year’s version, and the defense came through when it had to.

Room for improvement: Troy Williamson last year and tonight reminded me too much of Qadry Ismail–blazing speed and stumps for hands. And I actually agreed with the annoying Joe Theisman that punters should not be holding for place-kicks–the muffed extra point could have been huge, had Washington not missed their FG at the end of the game. I also thought the Vikings took a few extra shots down field when they didn’t need to.

Still, a road win against a conference foe is always a good thing.

“Stumps for hands” But very true. He better grow some hands quick. I didnt see Pinkston tonite.

    Defense looked pretty good.

I liked seeing the Saucer going deep for a bomb.

I would rather listen to nails on chalkboard than Joe Thiesman. That guy is truely worthless to sports T.V.

I kept waiting for them to self destruct like they would have on the road in recent years but they never did. Overall they looked good. They look like they definitely have a club they can work with. I really liked the decision to keep grinding out the run against a pretty stout defense and it paid dividends in the fourth.
They have a few things to work on though. Williamson looked horrid. Two of his three drops went right between his arms and the other one hit him in the face. They need to cut down on penalties.
Let’s hope this is the beginning of a great season.

I’m with you Gator. I was waiting for them to beat themselves, like years past. They survived however and looked good doing it, except for the players mentioned above. It could be a exciting season.

Awesome Game! I kept waiting for them to fall apart, but they played tough to the end…a credit to a coach with brains for a change.

Vikes win, Twins look to be winning, we got our first two full-moon trolling reports, bow-season opens Saturday, killed a very delicious bear last Friday, leaves are turning colors, there’s a chill in the air, the grass is mowed, smallies are stacking up and going nuts and soon the walleyes will be on the wingdams in good numbers again….does it get any better than that??? Gotta LOVE IT!

Looks like a real team this year, still has room for improvement but overall they look like they have potential. I was impressed to see they did not get big headed and blow it at the end…

Congrats to the Purple on a great win on the road. A big thanks to that washed up ex-packer Sharper. Nice job knocking Moss into next week preventing a touchdown.

    Bring on the Panthers!

    Great win.

I wonder what the score would have been if we got rid of Culpepper 1st and Moss was in there instead of Williamson.

Johnson was incredible. He looked like Montana w/ amazing poise and accuracy while getting chased all over the field.

    BIG WIN!

They did “good”, but had a few too many penalties. They must get a grip on that, and in my opinion all the penalties were justified. Not much for bad calling on the game.

They did pull through when they had too and basically shut down the offense in the 2nd half.

Johnson looked great, even through a few long balls!

I was relieved to see good coaching decisions. However, will have to disagree on the ” justified penalties”. Seems to me EVERY time that black official is assigned to our games, we get the short end of the stick. Many of the penalties should never have been called. However, in the end, I slept very well.
PS I hate political correctness but, I said “black” cuz I dont know his name

Is it just me, or are the taking the tackle out of football with the new rules. By this I mean, the helmet to helmet hits, late hits, throw the ball away outside of the pocket, etc. I don’t want guys injured all the time, but it is football.

It seems like everytime there is a good hit, a guy gets flagged and penalized. I prefer football to have some hits, hard tackles, and some tough players, but the NFL does not seem to want hits anymore. Let the boys play!

I was happy that the best hit of the night (end zone hit, don’t remember who put it on) did not get flagged, and forced Wash. to a FG.

That black offical gave the skins a personal foul that set us up for the game winning field goal.

it seemed to me that some of the D players came to break and bloody some noses. although the washhington players where hitting back just as hard.

    looked good in my opinion

THE BEARS???????? We’ll have to watch them play their first game before we can judge how good they’ll be this year……. and we all know beating up on the Packers doesn’t count. Beating up on them is kind of like smacking around your little brother, it is pretty fun but it does not prove how tough you are.

It was a very close game. The vikings did get a few breaks with penalties that went their way in the second half. Luckily, Brad didn’t get two of his long throws intercepted or they would have been short a few points. I was impressed they didn’t blow the game in the end. New coach = winning season? Carolina will be hungry next weekend after losing their first game.

The guy who was the referee last night, (aka Black guy) initiated very few of the calls last night. All he gets to do is deliver the bad news or the good news to the fans.

Go check out some ‘skins forums and see who they think the refs favored last night…

I am impressed with the win over Washington, since it was on the road against a team that looked good on paper, but Daniel Snyder has a habit of putting together all-star teams with no chemistry. It will take a few more games to know what we have with the Vikings this year.

Look no further than the Bears-Packers game on Sunday to see what I mean about not putting too much stock in one game. Are the Bears a great team who made the Packers look worse than they are, or are the Packers so horrible that they made an average Chicago squad look like Super Bowl contenders? I agree with the Bear fans for once on this one: we will know more about what Minnesota and Chicago have in two weeks. For that matter, Carolina was supposed to be a Super Bowl contender, but they got pounded on Sunday. Will that lousy performance carry over against the Vikings next Sunday, or was it a bad day by a good team? Time will tell…

Carolina is going to be a dangerous team next wekend. It will be interesting to see if Steve Smith plays.
