    Hey all,

I am looking to take a two day trip this week somewhere within 2-3 hrs of the cities that I can pitch a tent lakeside and preferably keep my boat (16 ft Tracker Pro-Guide)in the water. I’m having a hard time finding a place like that unless I travel 5-6 hours. Anyone know of any place that this may work? Or am I being unrealisic?? It seems like most places either have cabins or rv’s mainly.

This might be a little out of your range, I would say 3 1/2 hours from the cities, Sayner Wisconsin (between Minoqua and Eagle River). Star Lake at the national campground there, they have a campground on either side of the lake with about 7-8 sights that are lakeside per campground, Star Lake is the third cleanest lake in the state, has trophy musky, excellent walleye and sm bass. The lake is real gem and so is the campground, worth a little extra travel….

Holcombe flowage is in that range there is a lions campground with a boat launch on the lake and we pulled the boat up on shore at our site, no electric sites that I can remember but that was about 5 years ago maybe they have added some. The sites were only about 10 bucks a night also. Good walleye and smallmouth fishing, also caught some crappies and saw the biggest musky I have ever seen.

One other place to check out might be Evert’s on the mississippi. Dean has some camping spot right on the shore of the river and plenty of places to park your boat. Not sure on the price, you will have to contact Dean for that. The is also a banner ad in the mississippi river forum.

Call Dean at Evert’s Resort. The tent spots are right on the river. You can keep your boat right there at the docks. He has a launch right next to the docks. There’s bait and tackle on site. And Dean will help you get on the fish as well. It’s a short drive from the cities. Have fun!

Evert’s would be a great choice. You might also want to check out Hok-Si-La in Lake City. Hok-Si-La is right on Lake Pepin.
Another place that I think is excellent is Merrick State Park in Fountain City Wi. This campground is on Pool 5. This is the time for the wingies to start really kicking in down there.

The Carlos State Park on lake Carlos just north of Alexandria,MN is a very nice place for the family, good fishing on lake Carlos or a number of different lakes around the area.

I agree with bigpike. The Hayward area is nice, and there are plenty of places to camp. Hayward is about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me.

Another option is the St. Croix north of Taylor Falls.

Thanks for all the feedback. I’ve been to Hok-Si-La a few times this year and have really enjoyed it with two exceptions: LOTS of train traffic all night long and I scraped up the bottom of my boat pretty good along the rocky shoreline when I tried to dock for a while (with no dock!). I think I’ll give Evert’s a try in the morning and see what happens. Luckily there are still a few good weekends ahead for some fall fishing/camping. I’m always up for trying new places. Thanks again!
