I am in the process of getting a new ride and have narrowed my decision down to a Crestliner 1750DC. I have decided on a 4strk and am wondering if a Yamaha 90HP4Strk is underpowered for general family boating. Any opinions?

I believe the 90 Yamaha is a 2 stroke. Yamaha makes an 80, 100, and 115 4 stroke (along with others). The 80 and the 100 are carb and the 115 is fuel injected. SWEET motors. I have been running the 100hp 4 stroke for 2 seasons. LOVE it. I ran the 90 Yamaha 2 stroke for 6 seasons before that. Great motor, but it is hard to beat the 4 strokes. I would recomend you max out your boats hp rating. You will regret it if you don’t. Let us know how it works out for you.

Walleye addict is correct. There is not a 90 Yamaha 4 stroke. I have the 80 Yamaha 4 stroke and love it.

I personally would either get the 100 or the 115 Yamaha for that boat that I believe is rated for a 115. Get the biggest motor you can afford.

You will be happier in the long run.

A new 1750 Crestliner is now rated for 125 up from 115.
I have a 125 Merc on mine and it hauls. I would have liked to have gotten a four stroke but I am happy with this motor so far.

That is true of last year but this year Yamaha canned the 100 4 and added the 90. At least that is what the dealer told me at Crystal Pierz. I am just not sure ifI should max out a 125 2stk or go with the efficiency and quiet of the 90 4 strk. Thanks for the reply!

Split the differance and go with the 115hp fuel injected 4 stroke Yamaha!

I’d agree with the 115. The 2001 model does 40mph and that’s plenty fast for me. I love the Yamaha 115. It’s quiet, uses very little gas and really seems to belong on the 1750. I’d suppose that a 125 might be a little better for speed, but wonder if it would be able to troll down as well.
