Has anyone tried the new Crystal fireline yet? Any comments. Seen it in the Cabelas online catalog.

It is the same as the smoke and green Fireline other than its color.
They did come out with 2 & 3 # test, and I am going to use it for ice fishing this winter.

Like mentioned before they have the small lb test so it could be used for ice fishing. The only thing I have noticed that is different is that while trolling cranks it does not seem to stand up to the rocks and abrasion like the others do. Not sure if I just got a bad batch or what. Other than that I would say it is the same. I do like that it blends in better in the clear water.

It’s not the same as the smoke and green. I have a friend that works at the Berkley factory and has been making the crystal for the last while. There is extra special care taken to make sure there are no impurities in the line. My friend couldn’t go into detail as the process is supposed to be confidential I guess.

Is this supposed to be used for icefishing?

Any of the superlines I have used in the cold weather have a tendancy to “knot” up, and become almost unusable. It doesn’t lay down well on the spool, and looks like a nice spiderweb.

I have been switching over to mono for any weather below freezing. But then again, all my ice fishing as of late comes from the boat

Fireline does not work well icefishing. Yes, I know guys use it and swear by it. But, I do a lot of guiding on the ice and people always come spooled up with fireline..lets just say they end up using my equipment. I have yet to find a better line for ice fishing than Flourocarbon

What brand of flourocarbon do you use Scott. I have wanted to try some, but did not know which type to start with.

    Thanks,
