Pressure Tank

I’ve heard that pressure tanks loose air in their bladder over time. I think this has happened to me. When summer started my sprinkler system really covered well, now towards the end of the season my coverage is subpar and if I have too many zones or spikets on the heads barely move. My pump kicks in at 30 PSI, runs up to 45 PSI then shuts down. The head work great at full 45 PSI but really suck at 30 PSI. Please advise as to how I increase the air bladder safely.

Most pump switches are set for a 40psi to 60psi on/off limit. Your pressure tank label will state the correct air bladder psi for whatever pump switch setting you have.
Couple things to check before putting in anymore air:
1-Unscrew the valve stem cap and make sure there is no dirt or any other obstruction causing the valve stem to leak air.
2- make sure the valve stem itself is not leaking. Spit test. Tighten if needed.
3- Using a tire gauge, check to see how much psi the bladder currently has.
If more air is needed, you need to drain the tank first before putting any more air in. Let sit for a period and check with the tire gauge to make sure the bladder isn’t leaking inside the tank.
If all is well, turn the pump back on and you should be good to go.
One more thing, do you run a filter system in the line before the water goes outside? A dirty/plugged filter will cause the same symptoms.

Thanks Herb, those were some valuable tips.

I adjusted my PSI to 35-50 from 30-45 and that has seem to help already. I do not have a filter system into the outside lines. I have not checked the bladder but according too the Amtroil site my particular brand is not like the older versions? I guess I try the PSI for a couple days and see what happens. Thanks again
