A couple of weekends ago I was up at a buddy’s cabin on Mille Lacs and we decided to spend Saturday on a small lake just east of Mille Lacs. After a couple of hours of figuring out what they were going to bite on it was game on. My buddy threw the one bass oreno we had in the boat most of the day until the second 7 plus lbs northern of the day completely destroyed the lure. He also caught numerous bass between 2 and 3.5 lbs. I finally found some luck with the bass afer trying everything I had in the box. I found what worked best was a Texas rigged worm with a cone wait. I managed to pull a few of them out of the slop, but nothing of any size. At about 8 in the evening we started to creep towards the spot where we planned on doing a little topwater fishing around dark. The lake was glass and we thought it would be a perfect night for it. Well, that quickly changed as a nice breeze kicked up out of nowhere. So I decided to toss a sucker minnow about 2 feet under a bobber right on the weed edge. I throw it in there and no more than set my rod down when the bobber starts heading in to the weeds. I grab the rod and hook in to the beast pictured below. It weighed 5.25 lbs, my biggest large mouth ever. All in all it was a great day of fishing with wonderful weather as you can probably tell from my sun burn if I can get the picture to post on here.
