I need an opinion from any experts on the MN Protection act/right to carry a handgun. Short of the matter is, I have had a permit to carry since the law was enacted in 2003, but just received a letter in the mail threatening to revoke it if I do not provide them with court documentation on some stupid mistakes I made as a juvenile. In short, they have found where I committed some offences as a juvenile (13 years old) but they cannot get any info on it because juvenile records are sealed. They want me to provide it or they “may” revoke my license. Is this legal? Do I have any recourse? I am 31 now and the worst thing on my record is a moving violation. I have no other offeses… not even a DWI. Nothing in my open record shows me as anything other than a really upstanding citizen. When the law was passed… they did a check for my permit to purchase… passed no problem. They did a quick FBI search at the store I bought my gun from… passed again.. and then after the law passed… I applied for the carry license… again, passed no problem. All of a sudden… 3 years later… they are giving me problems. Anyone have some insight or know a lawyer or expert I could talk to?
