Things are progressing with the plans for the BB/BS EFN Gathering that is to be held on July 19, at Everts Resort.
I set the number of matches for 35. Here is the itinerary for the day… (this is the day before the EFN FTR Get-Together also held at Everts)
BB/BS – EFN Gathering
Friday July 19, 2002, is the first EFN Big Brothers/Big Sisters “Gatherings”. It too is to be held at Everts Resort .
Meeting time for all volunter help and EFN Field-Staff / Pro-Staff is 8:00am. Orentation and duities for each person helping will be announced then.
BB/BS matches will arrive at Everts Resort starting at 9:30am.
“Blast off” for fishing starts at 10:00am. after a safety orentation presentation.
EFN will have most of our 30 member staff there with boats. Some boats will hold two matches.
EFN staff who wishes to take a BB/BS match out fishing will; 1) check with their insurance agent for their own adequate liability coverage, 2) to accomidate these guests by having life jackets (one in a kids size, for each kid), 3) bring a couple of extra rigged rods. All adults fishing need a valid Minnesota or Wisc. fishing license.
Hotdogs, chips, and Kool Aid drink will be provided FREE for all helpers and matches, starting at 12:00 noon and continue to be provided untill 2:30pm, at Everts Resort .
BB/BS matches will have up to three hours in the boat and then return to Everts for lunch (by 1:00pm.). After lunch, they’ll have another three hours in a different EFN Staff person’s boat.
All artifical and live bait, rods and reels, will will be provided FREE to matches.
Shore-fishing will be available at Everts throughout the event day. EFN Staff will teach shore-fishing lessons from the beach and supervise/help with information for BB/BS matches that wish to only shore-fish. These EFN staff will be shareing shore techniques and rigging tips.
Many companies will be donating fishing tackle to the kids for the event, and have related items for the kids to take home.
This event ends at 6:00pm.
In an effort to promote BB/BS and the event, I have invited the media and many tv/radio hosts, local DNR and county water safety patroll officers. I have also asked the U.S. Coast Guard to send a ship there that day for the kids to see.
If you wish to help, please do your part to help make this a success…. in filling the day with fun, fishing information, and grand memories for these youth and their BB/BS matches.
If you want to help but can not attend, please contact me by email at [email protected]
I will soon be posting a list of those companies and induviduals that donate products and time/effort to the event.
Thank you for your part of this effort. Here is to safe and fun-filled time on the river for us all.
