I am/have been a chevy guy since I was old enough to know better. Having said that I am looking for a new truck, and am leaning towards Ford. Yes I said it ford. Since I am new to ford, the only thing I really know about them is that the Ford Diesel is the only way to go, as far as diesel’s go. I think that is the route that I am going to go, but I have found an F250, that I really like, but my only concern is the engine it has. It has the 5.4. I have test driven F150’s with this motor, and was not impressed at all. I thought it was the most gutless thing I have ever driven. Having said that, this truck has so real power, so I am confused as to why the 5.4 in the F150 is junk (to me anyway), and 250 has so much more getty up. Also I am going to be pulling a horse traier, and other stuff, Is this engine to small? Let me know what you guys think, and please don’t turn this into a ford vs chevy post, as they all have there issues. Thanks

    FB,
I think all lot of it has to do with gearing. The 5.4’s I’ve driven have been fairly gutsy, but for horse trailer pulling w/that engine I would think 4.10 gears would help a bunch. The 250 may be so equiped. If it was my personal choice I would go with the diesel.

The 7.3 has been around for a while and like all diesels it has it’s problems, just depends on how unlucky you are. I owned a Dodge w/ the Cummins and I really like the motor but didn’t care for the platform it was in,this was a “99”. I now own a Duramax GMC (05) and am very pleased with the whole package. The Duramax doesn’t give me the fuel mileage that the Cummins did but it does have a lot more power. The GMC rides a lot better then the Dodge, but the Dodge cab storage is a lot better. There are trade offs between all the vehicles. As far and engine goes the Cummins by far is the better motor and it’s to bad that a person couldn’t order a truck with choice of diesels.

You are not going to be happy with the small motor in that F-250. It will not do what you want it to do when it comes to working the truck. Also you will not get the re-sale on that truck!!!! Every single person who want’s a F-250 want’s the V-10 or the Diesel and only because some people settle for the 5.4, are there trucks like that on the road. I am going to say that 80% of the people who are driving F-250’s with the smaller motor asked themselves this very same question and just eventually gave in to the smaller engine when it would only take four more months of saving to get into a diesel and get WAY better mileage and re-sale!!!!!!!! Good Luck
