I spent Thursday evening fishing with my hunting/fishing buddy and his two nephews on Sand Lake (St. Louis County). It wasnt my boat so I dont have a water temp. It was about 83 and partly sunny with a slight NW wind. We were trolling beetle spins with leeches and crawler harnesses at just under 2 mph. We started off with a few bluegills, then a couple nice crappies, then the biggest slab – a 14″ just under 2 lb. crappie caught by John(12 yrs old). After a few northerns we called it a night (we were looking for walleyes). The best bite was on the leeches, but the northerns preferred the crawler harness. I bet that kid is STILL smiling . . .
