the tach on my 03′ lund explorer ss w/ 90 yammy isn’t working! I’ve tried trouble shooting it my self (i.e. fuse, wiring, checking for loose connections at tach and motor) the hand on tach move very little at start up, when key is on, and at wot goes from idle speed to 5500 rpm!
any help would be appreciated, my dealer is swamped, I don’t want to miss valuable on the water time!
    Thanks in advance!

It runs off the coil. It could either be a faulty ground, or a bad tach. Prepare yourself for the worst. Those tach’s are very spendy. If it is bad, look for a used one.

It runs off the stator. Get a good Yammy manuel. Clymer is a good one if they make one for yammy. Check up by your gear shifter for a single lead. Don’t know what color it is for yammy, OMC is purple. that lead should go back to the stator.(under flywheel.)Then a positive and negative lead on tach plus rpm lead will run tach. i’m thinking like an OMC man but a yammy can’t be that much different. Power trim and tilt can also stress the wiring harness that goes back up to the gear shifter. trim it up the gauges do one thing and down they do another.
    Just trying to help.
