got home from a great three days at roy lake lodge in south dakota,to find my house had been robbed while i was gone tvs gone,ps2 with 20 games,my boy is here for the summer and brought his game cube with 15 games or so,thats gone, dvd players, surround sound system,50 dvd movies, the list goes on,insurance company says i got 1000.00 dollar deductible and games, movies, cds dont count ,so i dont think its in my best interest to file, plus my rates go up,and if you have two claims in a yr,they drop you,and you will have a hard time getting coverage anywhere, guess life will go on,could of been worse, they didnt take any of my computer stuff, and i had 10,000 dollars in tools in the garage.

    Mean people SUCK!

I heard a story once about a guy who used to rob houses,(for the kicks and money) he was in one late at night and while sneaking around suddenly felt something cold and metalic pressing into his head.
A voice said “I think you got the wrong house”
His response was “I think your right”

Instanly cured him of the “thrill and/or money needs”

Worst people in the world are liars and thieves.

You could call a local security co and look into a system. Its too late this time, but might save your stuff the next time. PM me, I work for a security co.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I hear these story’s about insurance company’s canceling and agents that don’t stand up for their clients and it really get’s my goat. If my insurance agent ever told me not to make a legitimate claim I would find a new agent in a heart beat. Over the years I have hade claims and never been threatened in this manner. Your insurance is only as good as your agent, he is the one that represents you to the insurance company.

was a family trip, but the fishing i did do wasnt to bad, went over to cattail/kettle lake 2 times for morning bites, and caught nice 18-22 inch walleyes both trips pulling cranks in 12-14 feet of water, total fish for the trip was 9 keeper walleye.(lots of perch/northern/smallmouth bass thrown in now and then)weather was great, and the kids had a blast tubing.

If a similar encounter ever took place at my home, it would be preceded by a loud “bang”. This, of course, would make these comments irrelevant, as they most certainly would be falling on deaf ears! This cure would also be instant and permanent!

I would seriously question your agent! I’m no expert on policies but that sounds like an agent trying to limit their losses. If you’re comfortable filing the claim, file away. If you paid for these things with a credit or debit card, the receipts will not be hard to come by. It’s the insurance company that has to prove you are filing a false claim and most likely, won’t pursue it because after the $1000 deduct. it won’t pay for them to fight.
I’d be looking for a new agent if mine ever gave me that line! I have a good friend who’s an adjustor and I’ll email him to find out if cd’s, games, etc are not covered items.

My cousins wife has worked in the insurance business for the same company for 35 years now. I heard her say about 3 years ago its legal to make 3 claims a year without getting the business from any agent and its against the law, atleast here in Iowa it is. In other words you can make up to 3 claims a year and they have to stand behind it, after that it may be thier option. If you guys are looking for an outstanding insurance company, they are around here anyway try Allied insurance. We had a small attic fire about 3 weeks ago that was caused by pulling too many amps through a junction box that was cobbled up by the previous owner and it caught the cellulose on fire and it caused minor damage to the attic and ceiling. I called my insurance company and he came over the same day, took pictures and gave me a damage price. He personally brought over a check for the damage two days later and allowed us an unreal amount for personal damage. I couldn’t belive the service and deal i got from them. Give Allied a call if your unhappy with your present insurance company, i’d be a fool to try to find another one!!

Another thing I thought of is, have you seen your policy? Actually physically seen one come direct in the mail to you, not through your agent. The easiest way for an agent to be fraudulent is to take your money and “tell” you your covered without ever filing the application. Then they cross their fingers and hope you never have a major loss.

Here is the reply I got from an industry expert.

“The way we do it is we get a listing of the total amount of items (itemized) with the name of the item, the age of the item and what the replacement cost of the item is and put it on the form. With the age of the item, we Depreciate the item for example….

PS2 5 years old Cost $200 We would Depreciated it 25% or subtract $50 and give them the ACV (Actual Cash Value) on it of $150.

We would do that to each item….add it all up and get a subtotal, subtract their deductible and give them the ACV check in their name only.

Then if they so choose to replace the item and send us a receipt, after adding tax, for say $212.00….we then send the Depreciation plus any difference….$212(Replacement Cost/Receipt) – $150 (paid to them ACV) = $62 is what they would get back if they proved they replaced the item.

It has nothing to do with using the stuff to meet the deductible. You just add it all up and it is what it is. Now in his mind he can say, ok, all my cd’s and games will meet the deductible and then what I am realistically replacing are the PS2 and TV.

Not sure if that answers your question or not.”

So your agent is giving you bad information!!

I’ve had a couple insurance agents over the last 40 plus years always thought they’d look after me and one did some time back but I just swithced to AARP Ins for the house, boat and cars. My daughter has the same agent I had and had an accident where she got hurt and the other partys at fault. Agents saying yes yes but doing no no and now the Medical people are sending the collection agencies out to my daughters when she keeps getting told its taken care of. So I figured I might as well use an 800 number for my service and for the policys its only about 60% of my old cost.
