Last time on the water I hit a piece of ice, my transducer fliped up and cut the wire just enough to make it read very faintly. It will still give me depth but it has a very weak bottom reading.I know I am in need of a new one and am looking for a temporary solution. Has anyone ever tried to splice a transducer wire after it has been slightly cut or damaged. Just do not want to waste my time if it is not possible.

    Thanks.

    Dustin:

I’ve done it with GPS cable when I wanted to run two units off the same antenna.

Just soldered the wires together and black-taped them up good……..worked fine.

I don’t know if transducer cable is the same, (GPS wire had 4 small electrical wires).

    Hope this helps.

    Good Luck.

    Dustin,

One way to break in the new rig? JK

I had a similair problem on a night before a vacation fishing trip. I had severed the cable and had no choice but to repair it because of lack of time to get a new one.

What I did was cut the cable and stripped the wire(s) back enough to salder (sp?) the wire back together. Then I sealed it up good and tight with a strip of heat shrink tubing. Probably would not hurt to put a dab of marine sealant on here to keep it somewhat waterproof on each end of the heat shrink. This got me by the weekend until I was able to get a new one.

I would reccommend getting a new one asap. This connection is a weak point and may fail eventually.

    Good Luck
