As you all know, I have been having a rough time on the Miss. I’ve lost a skeg and now my prop. I have no idea what to look for when replacing it . I know that I want stainless, but there are so many other variables. (e.i. pitch, top end, hole shot) I mean the list can go on forever. What do you guys look for when buying a prop? Your help is appreciated. Thanks, Jesse

Best bet is to ask your boat dealer for a starting point as far as pitch and diameter for your given horsepower and boat size. I run a Mercury outboard, and Mercury has demo props ( blue )you can try out. The dealers usually have a pretty good selection of pitch and 3-4-5 blade props. Try a couple sizes each way in say a 3 blade and then maybe a 4 blade. For me it took a good half day of test runs and prop changes. It is really quite a learning experience seeing how the different prop sizes effect hole shot and top end and wide open throttle. If you run a jack plate, then you really start opening up the possibilities because you add the ability to adjust motor height underway and can sometimes turn a bit more agressive prop. Along with the jack plate, you add in motor setback which also changes how your boat handles. From what I found, changing one thing can open up a whole another can of worms so only change one thing at a time and don’t be too agressive in what you do. Small steps and changes.

It looks like they have Merc prop recommendations for Suzuki motors.
