Well after a long 10 days of being away we finally got back. It was a great trip and i enjoyed it very well, (finishing 14th made it even better). First off i would like to thank Curt Reese known here as Will eye and his dad. they pointed us in the right direction and even gave us a few pointers. thanks again guys. now to the fishing. Lake sharpe is more like a river than a lake. just about everywere there is current. with that said even though it is a river it is nothing like the miss. first off this water is very very clean. i could see the black anchor sitting on bottom in 10 fow . it also is quite differnt in terms of water levels. im used to the miss when the water comes up over a couple days and then stays there for a while then goes back down for a couple of days. not here the water is down every morning and by mid afternoon ( 1 ish) it is up by about 3 feet with water levels like that it makes it tough to make a game plan. now to the catching part. first day out there stop at a spot that was a 13′ bowl surrounded by a 6′ flat. anchored just above the hole and decided to try some b fish n ringworms in there. ended up have to use a 1/4 jig to get it to sweep right. once we got everything dialed in we had a ball. we sat there for about 2 hours and probally caught 40 fish all ranging from 16″ to 19″ best color by far was the firecracker blue tail. i thought the miss. walleyes hit a ringworm hard, not at all compared to these fish. they would hit it and it would litterly just about take the rod out of your hand. it was like nothing i have ever felt. and they fought like their life depended on it. (for some it actually did ). So if you thought ringworms and such only worked on the miss. your wrong because they did some major damage over there. not sure if it was just that they never saw something like that or what but they sure wanted the ringworms. the rest of the weekend and week up until friday was spent pitching ringworms and trolling cranks. i would say they put about the same number of fish in the boat. The best ringworm colors were #1 firecracker blue tail, #2 cotton candy, and then probally pro blue. The best for the cranks were the #5 blue and chrome jointed, #5 white jointed grappler shad, and the #5 walleye jointed. all fish caught were in 14 fow or less. we caught them as shallow as 3 feet. if you have seen the weights for the tourny you will have noticed that most all of these fish are the same. they range from 14″ to 19″ if you get one 20″ or bigger you are doing very well. quite differnt from what im used to on the miss. were that is just a good fish. we only caught 6 fish 20″ or bigger for the 9 days we fished with 2 of them coming on sat of the tourny. Our biggest was a healthy 20 1/2. It was a nice change of pace to go somewhere new and see some different senery. all in all it was a fun 10 days and the 14th place finish was just a bonus. I would also like to say congrats to the other two teams from the red wing area that fished. congrats to Mike and Mike Schommer for their 12 place finish. and also a congrats to DJ Seiwert(sp?) and Tom Dierks (sp?) on their very hard earned 6th place finish. it was great talking with you guys and hope to do it more often. i have a few pics to follow. thats all for now, time to finally get some long awaited rest.
