Power Pro and the military?

So a buddy of mine just calls and said he went to Sportsmans Warehouse to get some Power Pro. All he saw was some 10lb stuff so he asks an employee if they have any stronger stuff. The employee said “to tell you the truth, we probably won’t be getting any for awhile because the military is using it to resew bullet proof vests”.
Has anybody else heard anything like this? Sounds pretty fishy to me.

After using this stuff once I can see why! Works good for anchor ropes too. But it sounds like a pretty good story!

I used it to tow a car down the street once! I only wrapped it around the hitch a couple times! Man that is some strong stuff.

I would not believe that they would use that to sew up their armor. Even if they did I dont think there would be a shortage.

There are a bunch of items that are harder to come by now days do to the war but if a service person asked I would give them all I have.

The only think I can think of is some of the products used to make PowerPro may be used for sewing vests. I know my vest is stiched with kevelar thread and some nylon. I don’t know the compisition of PowerPro but doubt it is made of kevelar.

That’s odd…I called Sportsman’s Warehouse in Woodbury yesterday…for the same reason. All they had on the wall was 10 pound test…and I was looking for 80.

They are carrying the heavier line in bulk it turns out.

I thought I would check about this “shortage” on the PP web site and it didn’t mention it…but it did talk about a knock off from China….

    WARNING

A company in China is selling low grade fishing line in boxes which look very similar to genuine PowerPro.

Luckily the simulated line is easy to spot as they’ve changed several features of the design.

Well if it’s good enough for bullet proof armor and helicopters and down riggers must be ok for fishing. Personally I love the stuff

Try the Suffix Performance Braid. I am changing all of my PP and FL spooled reels over to it. On Mille Lacs the last two trips, the rod spooled with Suffix caught all of the fish. It is only 9 mils thick, and gets down very quickly, and is very abrasion resistant.
