Sent out to us at FTL by William “Ferny” Fernholz, this tri-fecta of pics pretty much leaves me wanting to get some “shack time”…. ice shack that is! Anyway, straight from Ferny… “Here’s a couple pics of our Lake of the Woods trip and Red Lake. We did great for 4 guy’s and 2 days: kept 48 saugers >12″, 6 perch 12”, and 1 nice walleye. Released about 75 smaller ones.

We also stopped on our way home for a night on Red Lake for some slabs. We ended up with 32 crappies all between 11.5″-14.5″ We also caught 20+ walleye’s from fingerling to 13″! Man that is going to be one hot fishery when they open it up!

All in all it was one fantastic trip!

Thanks for the reports AND the great looking pics. What kind of digital camera do you use?

    Hey Ferny,

Good to see you had a good trip. Looks like a lot of fun.

On the Red Lake stop, how does that work? Do you pay a resort to use the road out to the spots? Were you guys driving P/U trucks out? or did they take you out? Any recomendations are welcome.

    Thanks,

    J.

Jon, I haven’t been up to Red yet this year and can’t speak to the ice conditions and driving out. But there is three places that I know of to get on the lake. Rogers campground , which has a website with a daily fishing report http://www.rogerscg.net. The West Wind bar and Hudeks resorts which you drive by both on your way to LOTW. All have plowed roads onto the lake for around 5 bucks that s what it was last year anyways.
