Fish Reproductions – Anyplace a little cheaper?

I recently caught a fish worthy of a wall mount. Many pictures taken as well as several measurements. Decided to CPR the fish and let it swim another day. Problem is, I’ve found out that reproduction is way more than having actual fish skinned and mount made. ($15/inch compared to $10/inch) OUCH! (Makes me think I need to hold out for an even bigger one to spend that kind of money) Not wishing to spend that kind of money right now. If someone out there is just getting started in that business and wants a shot at doing one, I would settle for a little less than perfect one in the interest of spending considerably less money.

Check out Artistic Anglers out of Duluth…I don’t think they are that much!

I believe “FiberTech” in Brainerd is $11/inch. Nice quality also.

There is a guy in Buffalo City that I believe is a bit cheaper and does an outstanding job. He is a retired Milwaukee Police Officer who has been teaching and doing taxidermy for the past several years. Perhaps you can find him in the phone book. He lives right along the river drive on the north side of town.

Based on my experiences with reproductions let me add a note of caution. Walleyes, Sunnies, Crappie and Bass seem to come out nice; however, we have not had good experiences with Northern. The two we had done just don’t look real. They are available in 3-4 sizes and we just never got a good match to the actual fish.

Does the guy also do sturgeon? I was thinking of getting a 31#er replica but don’t know where to go as well. I was referred to Duluth but they didn’t have the molds.

Wow, I have no idea. I do know he orders the plastic replicas and then paints them. I wish I still had his card so you could give him a call.
