Got my letter in the mail today stating the VA lost all my personal information. I’m not real happy, but I’m sure I’ve left myself open to fraudulent identity theft without even knowing it.

In the business I’m in, it really opens your eyes to securing data. I guess when people want to call me the security/IT Nazi at work, I’ll just reference this situation. The problem is, no matter how secure you make your systems, it’s impossible to prevent stupid people from doing stupid stuff.

Mine came today. I have to admit I am not that worried about it myself. I have to have jeopordized my personal information on my own plenty of times. And with any luck at all, the moron who burglurized the VA workers home is too stupid to know what he has.

Just a dumb question…could this be a terrorism thing? Could they possibly be trying to demoralize our past and present military personnel? Thanks for your service guys!!!!!!!!!!

yep got mine too. I’m not overly worried about it yet. Think they are trying to get as much political mileage as they can out of it, election year and all.

False charges sould not be a problem. Your maximum liability is $50.00, and in your situation the credit card compnay will probably eat the whole thing.

The letter I got today was a basic form letter from the Secretary of Veterans Affairs informing “Dear Veteran” of the theft of the electronic data. This letter was forwarded through the IRS because “we do not have current addresses for all affected individuals” Are you guys talking about this letter or are you receiving letters of a more one on one notification?

    Jim,
That is pretty much the letter, a form letter to cover everyone. they want to overnotify everyone, just in case.

I did get mine when I got home from work today. and I got out after 7 years in 1975. and reports last week said, I believe, that it was effecting Vets from 1976. oh well.

I got out in ’71 so maybe I don’t have to worry too much about this fiasco. I sure do hope someones head rolls quite a distance for causing this situation Thanks for the response Jack

I know this probably a dumb question, but if they lost all info how do they get your name and address to send you the letter?
