My father bought a brand new 16 foot alumacraft with a shoreland’r trailer last year. This set up is great for my father, not to big, and not to hard to get the boat on the trailer for his age.
Except for the trailer, it lacks metal. I showed him that where the crank handle bolts to the tongue, it was starting to kink and rust. He took it back to the dealer and showed them the problem. In 2 days they fixed the trailer with a brand new tongue. The kicker is that the shoreland’r dealer, not the boat dealer, told my father that they will not fix it again. They said it was caused by cranking the boat up on the trailer. Come on, why put the winch on the trailer at all. I guess if you can’t build a trailer that can winch up a small boat, maybe they need to go back to the drawing board. Now he has to modify the crank arm that is bolted to the tongue. Unbelievable

MOST DEALERS JUST THROW BOATS ON A GENERIC TRAILER AND DONT SPEND ANY TIME ADJUSTING THE TRAILER PER THE APPLICATION. I HAVE SEEN THAT ALOT AT DEALERS THAT OFFER MULTIPLE BRANDS AND 1 OR MAYBE 2 TRAILER OPTIONS.

It’s the state of the industry. I own a Stratos 201 pro-xl. They have a custom trailer to go with it, and my tongue is cracking just the same. It has nothing to do with cranking, it has everything to do with shoddy construction. Crystal Pierz has been the WORST when it comes to fixing things. They told me my trailer was out of warranty, and that I should just go get it fixed on my own. When I complained to the factory, they told me that it was still under warranty, and that they’ve had problems before. My trailer is cracking so badly, I’m afraid to drive it, yet Crystal P tells me it’s up to me to get it there on my own dime. I’ll end up suing them for the tow truck. Just one more thing to add to my three page list of problems with the boat and dealer. All I can say is that you should keep careful notes and take pictures. They’ll come in handy in court.

Sold boats for years and not everyone just throws them on a trailer! When you have multiple boats going on and off of trailers all the time you are wasting your time setting up a trailer for a specific boat. Most often they are set on a trailer. Also, you want it set up on a weekend with a million other customers around is fine, but come back on monday and it would be set up. Just my $.02!

Only a customer that would appreciate the job to be done right rather than a quick fix, which we all know leads to problems. By the way it happened to you twice and now that is the way it ALWAYS is, what???????? Anyway not trying to argue every business is different and everybody finds something to complain about whether you are the person being helped or are the person waiting in line to get stuff done.

I KNOW NOTHING. I AM JUST A COMPLAINER. CK WITH BOAT DEALERS WHO SELL 4-5 ALUMINUM BOATS AND SEE HOW MANY TRAILER OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE. SEE HOW THE FIT IS BRAND TO BRAND, FLATS,SEMI-V, V’S THEY ALL FIT DIFFERENT. ASK ABOUT A TRAILER W/ PRICE AND THEY SHOOT FROM THE HIP 5-900. AND THATS WHAT THEY HANG IT ON. MY LAST PURCHASE OF AN XPRESS CAME WITH A CUSTOM BUNK TRAILER TO MATCH. THE BOATS SETTING ON DISPLAY ALL WERE SET DIFFERENT. TRANSOM HANGING BACK TO FAR, ROLLERS TO LOW. WINCH OFF TO ONE SIDE. I HAVE JUST LEARNED THAT IT IS PART OF THE PURCHASE,DOING IT MYSELF. I AM JUST MERELY STATING MY OPINION ON WHY THE GUY HAD PROBLEMS.
