4 stroke fuel usage

I have been keeping track of my fuel usage in my 140 Johnson 4 stroke outboard. So far this spring I have used 22 gallons of gas with 11 hours of run time on the hour meter. This run time has been running around Mille Lacs Lake…with near zero slow speed usage!!! most has been 1/2-full speed.

    I think that’s pretty good!!!

I LOVE the amount of gas a 4 stroke uses.

Bobber, you have to love it. I kept track for the first year on my F150 Yamaha, and it figured out to 2.3 gallons per hour. That was for everything from WOT to a small amount of time trolling with it.I also ran my T8 off the same tank, and didn’t even figure that in on the totals…

I agree, the gas consumption is awesome! DF140 Suzuki is sweet. Not the strongest motor I’ll admit, but great on gas.

Yes….it’s not super fast, but I get 43-44 mph with my Alumacraft Tournament Pro 175 SC

I have a 17′ boat with the little brother to the 140 a 115 Johnson 4 stroke and my top speed is 44 also. That makes me think what prop size your running because both motors top rpms are 6000. So 2 differant motors with the same prop spinning the same should run the same speed on a boat of close weight or the same boat? Right

I have an ’04 50 4stk and I went out fishing with another guy who has a ’94 60 2stk. In the same trolling day around Lake Red Rock, I used 4 gallons while he used 13. Amazing difference. It costs enough just to drive to the lake, let alone burning 40 bucks worth of gas in the boat as well.

I’ll have to say I love my 250 Yammi. I haven’t broke it down, but I know I’m using less than my buddies 200 HPDI. Speed is nice at 58-63 and the holeshot is right there fully loaded.

    Bobber,
I’m getting about what you are, 45mph gps was the best I ever got, plenty fast for me. Sure does troll down nice.

I have a 140 Johnson 4-stroke as well on my 17′ Crestliner. Great gas economy. The only problem I see is the same as the 4-stroke Yamaha I had before the Johnson. It needs gas so seldom, that I kind of quit looking at the gauge and then one day I look and I have almost nothing left and I need to get back to the launch!! Well, I guess that isn’t a big problem.

I have a lowrance inline fuel flow meter. The 115HP yammy is averaging about 2 gallons per hour from what I usually see. Sometimes it is 0 gallons per hour when it is idling or something like that. The T8 is very close to 0 at trolling speed.

I have an F115 Yammy on my 1750 C-liner and the gas consumption is almost laughable…I get about twice the mileage as my buddy’s 150 Merc 2 stroke

Does it mean that the Yammy is worse or better? And is the Merc 2 stroke an optimax?
