Keep them in the fridge and change the water daily. If your going to use tapwater, let it sit out for a few hours first to let the chlorine evaporate. DO NOT feed them.

I keep mine in the fidge in the garage and change the water every 3-4 days. I buy a few pounds at a time and they keep well. Here is more then you want to know about a leech but something in here may help you. Life of a Leech

this may help also. Leech care.

I keep mine in a 2 gallon rubbermaid container in the fridge. I put 1.0-1.5 gallons of water on them. I change the water every few days. I like a container that has a large footprint so the leeches can spread out. The more water you use, the longer it will last.

I’ve kept leeches alive throughout the winter.

I will tell you one thing. That is the temperature of the water should be the same as when you changed the water. Trust me!

The toilet trick works with homes that have a well.

I saw in the Fleet Farm add that they are making a leech bedding now. Has anyone tried this?

LMAO Do you really think the wife is going to let me fill the toilet tank with leeches? I keep them in the fridge next to the crawlers and beer they keep reel long and I even keep them in with the minnows seems like they help keep the minnow water clearer.

Change the water often, or just buy new leeches each trip!!

That’s what I do. Just throw the leech tamer into the tank.

There are places around Mille Lacs that are selling leeches packed in bedding rather than water. Seems to work well. Looks and feels just like worm bedding, just a little more water. If you buy leeches from the bait “vending machines” that are popping up, it probably is packed in bedding.

i used the leech bedding last summer and had really great results with it. bought a # of jumbos and kept them most of the summer till i used them up. had to change the well water everyday. this year i would maybe use a bigger container with more water. they sure do eliminate alot of trash fish. i see they have a leech food also, i’ve never tried that. good luck with ur lil blood suckers!
