    I have a 2002 merc 25 hp tiller and there is a bad gasket under the hood so it was spitting water all over. The gasket is under a cover with 9 bolts in it. 2 of the bolts are in a way so that the bootom of the hood does not let you take them out. I would really prefer not to pay someone a lot of money to replace this gasket. If anyone knows how to get those two bolts out so that I can replace the gasket, it would be so helpful.

    I’ve only owned one merc, it was a 1964 10hp model. Sorry I can’t help. Persoanlly, I would look for a chilton type manual, or try to figure out how to get the lower cowling off. Or, get out the torch and bend a wrench to fit.

    Nick;
    Go to the nearest Merc dealer/repair shop. Tell them what is happening. 99% of the time, they will tell you what you need to do to fix it…..

    Also, while you are there, pick up a maintenance manual so you know what to do.

    The problem is not with getting a wrench on these bolts, it is that when you go to take the bolts out, they are too long to get all the way out because there isnt enough room. I think I will have to go down to the service shop close by and ask them how to do it. Thanks for trying to help guys.
