I’m planning on doing my maiden Smallmouth voyage on the Chip and Flambeau Rivers this Saturday. Does anyone have launch information on the Chippewa between Eau Claire and Ladysmith, WI ?

There are so many shallows and dams in that stretch of water, you need to get a Wisconsin Gazetteer just to be able to locate the landings along the way. Don’t know how big of a boat you are going to use, but not knowing that area can really mess up a boat. I’ve been north of Wissota, and know that area has a lot of hidden rocks, and on the Holcombe flowage, but I don’t know the rest of the areas.

Alvin, is there a particular stretch you are interested in fishing? That would dictate your launch options.

I don’t know much about the river south of Jim Falls, but I know of at least three launches that are suitable for any size boat between Eau Claire and Jim Falls.

I don’t chase bass, so I don’t know the regs on that stretch though.

If you are interested in trying that stretch, I can PM you the launches I know about.

not sure how big your boat is but I’m pretty sure you could get a lighter 16′ in. The landing in Bruce is on the east side of the bridge on the up river side.I’m guessing 16 to 18 mile strip of river to meet the flambeau. This is a great stretch of river, stacked with smallies and quite a few musky and pike too. The water level is going to help you out on how many props you go through. There is 4 more landings for sure between you and the flambeau. All are listed in the gazetteer. pm me with any questions I may be able to help………bring lots of mepps #2’s and #3 and floating rapalas.

    Amack,
be prepared for low water. I was up at the origin of the Flambeau and it’s LOW
should be great for the RiverPro

Alvinmack, don’t you have a jet-driven boat? Thus should do quite well in the river.
