    Hi,

I’ve got a friend who wants to take his 3 y/o grandaughter fishing. He asked me if HE needed a license to take her shore fishing on an area pond.

I said I wasn’t sure, but I knew that the little girl didn’t need one.

I checked the regs. and all it says is anyone under 15 doesn’t need a license.

    Thanks for your help!

In Minnesota he needs a license, she does not.

If he doesn’t assist her in any way, I don’t believe he would need a license. He helps her cast, reel, anything like that, he needs a license. At least that is my understanding of Wisconsin law. If she’s 3, he should have a license as he’ll be helping her plenty.

From the MN DNR Website: For 2006, the Minnesota Take A Kid Fishing Weekend is June 9-11. On these days, Minnesota residents can fish for free if they are fishing with youngsters up to age 16.

In Wisconsin it’s always the first full weekend of June. This year it’s the 2-4th. No license required resident or non. All other regulations still apply.
