Talking with the head of the house (wife) about our summer family vacation with the kids.

Anyone run out to Wisconsin Dells?

Can you offer any “dos” and “don’t dos”………

    Good experience?
    Bad experience?

    Places to go?
    Places not to go?

Haywood, can you help me with this and your business?

My family and I spent a couple of days at Great Wolf Lodge and loved every minute of it. A little pricey but what vacation spot is cheap ?

Rent a condo at the Wilderness, they have 3 parks that are included and a shuttle bus to take you to them. Also really nice rooms, fireplace, laundry, tv/dvd and movies, and a full kitchen so you don’t have to eat the fried crap they have available. I think it is a bit pricey but you don’t have to pay for the parks and can save a little by cooking a couple of meals yourself.

Over the years I have stayed at Great Wolf, Wilderness Resort, and Treasure Island…..the level of pricing goes in that order too with Treasure Island the least expensive of the three. We had a blast at each one…..you can’t go wrong really. Check them all out on the web. Treasure Island includes the water park and roller coaster park right next door. It is nice having the coaster park and bumper cars available in case the weather is not hot.

We hit the Dells last year around the first week of June. It was great timing as most of Wisconsin was still in school so we had the run of the place…..no long lines. But, some local schools did bring groups of kids to the park for a couple hours…..then they were gone. We were real lucky as it was a very hot week. Been to the Dells one other time in July and nearly froze our butt off. Good thing for the indoor water slides, etc.

I grew up 15 minutes from there. What are you looking for? Fmily activities, outdoors, fishing? The Dells area is expanding by leaps and bounds. They just added a strip mall for the ladies. Let me know what you are looking for and I can give you some ideas.

My wife and I have been there quite a few times. For family fun stuff try the ducks tour. Noahs Ark for an all day activity. The thrill show is a must see. We go every time and it is always an amazing thing to see. I love it as a adult! We then usually spend at least one full day shopping and walking threw the downtown area. And another full day enjoying the hotel pool, grilling etc……

Took the wife and kids to Wilderness for a week last fall. I don’t know how old your kids are, mine are 4 and 7, they had a blast. Tons of stuff to do with access to 3 water parks. Great rooms and a great time. Just my 2 cents. Love2Fish.

The thrill show is a waterskiing/trick show, it is very entertaining. I also think that it is worth going to watch. The ducks are also good. Noah’s arc as said is good too, but gets very busy. If your family likes miniture golf, priates cove is a good. There are also some wonderful restaraunts to eat at. A number of plaecse also rent out paddle boats and water fleas, I mean jet skies. Aside from that there are go carts such. It is all up to your imagination.

Bassman, I went to the Dells about 20 years ago when I was a kid. Is robot world still there? We also went on a boat ride where the was narrow passage called “fat man’s misery” or something like that along the shore where the boat stopped. Do they still have the dog that jumps across the cliffs along the shore too? We went to the ski show too which was entertaining. Wasn’t the name of everything back then Tommy Bartlett’s? Ah, the memories of the Dells.

    Basically,
looking at a Thursday to Sunday type of a deal, taking a 7 year old and a 12 year old……….Along with the little guy who will be about 1 year.

No fishing involved………Just family fun, primarily for the kids and for me and momma to walk around and relax…..

We were looking at the Atlantis Waterpark…….Good/bad idea?

The wilderness resort is where we go once a year. You and you kids would love it. A little expensive but worth it not having to leave. They have great both indoor and outdoor waterparks and don’t let people in off the street.

I’ve been there once, and I remember the storybook land or something like that. I also have to advise you that if you go one one of the duck tours (if they still do that) and they tell you that it will be a nice smooth ride, be careful because we hit a bump and my brother smacked his head on the roof of the duck not more than 10 seconds after being given an announcement about a smooth ride

No jumping dog that I am aware of, it missed its last try by an inch. Just kidding. Anyway, all the other stuff is there, plus much more. And yes just about everything in the town was owned by Bartlet, he died about 8 years back. The cost is getting really bad there too, the price you pay for being in a tourist town. No pun intended.
