Shallow spinner rig question

Im planning to hit the Wisc. opener trolling for walleyes on one of the Madison lakes. My research tells me to fish the emerging weeds in 4-6 fow. The question is; when using live bait spinner rigs, how far do I let them out to get close to bottom without dragging it. Or should I use a small shot in front of rig. Ill be pulling planer boards and have an assortment of snap weights but they would be to heavy. Any advise would be great———–H

Go buy a trolling bible. All the info you want is in there. Good luck!!!!

Weightless spinners behind boards is flat out deadly on walleyes!!!!! Great idea!!!!!
I would put your spinner about 30-40 feet behing the board to target the 4-6 foot range! One key thing to remember is the speed! If you stop, those spinners will sink to the bottom! Make sure your going fast enough to keep them off the bottom!! Yet slow enough to trigger those fish! Also make sure when your letting your boards out that you keep up a good speed, not to let your spinner sink and hit bottom. Don’t want your spinner to get fouled up cause it hit bottom or weeds!!

This was a great way to put numbers of big fish in the boat last year in Green Bay!!!

let us know how you do!!!

Pulling spinners over shallow weeds AT NIGHT is something I want to try this opener. It seems to me that a apinner with a big blade, maybe flourescent, pulled over emerging weeds using a bowmount would be a great, stealthy presentation to cover some water…and a subtle alternative to pulling cranks.

Thanks all. Will tell how I do. Im taking my 17 yr old son trolling for 1st time. Hope to get some action so he’ll want to go again. My troll bible tells everything bout weights and speed but says nothing about speed and no weight. I’ll scan it again tonite; maybe I misses it.—————–H

My bad, Hatch. I didn’t read enough details about your question. I don’t recall any non-weighted info either.
