    Hi all,
I don’t hunt and don’t even own a gun but my son is really into it. We both took and passed the firearm’s safety training this past spring. I have been learnin right along with him……well, he seems to know more than I at this point. Anyway, we are looking for a 20 gauge pump shot gun for him. He plans to hunt bird and deer. He wants a combo so he can change over to a rifled barrell. We have looked at Cabela’s, Gander, and other places and can’t come up with it.

The problem seems to be that he/we want to be able to mount a scope to the barrell and have it stay on so we don’t need to site it in every time. Also, he can handle an adult model. Any direction on this would help….maybe we are looking for something that doesn’t exist.

What your looking for is a slug barrel with a cantalever {sp} scope mount. I thought Remmington had them but maybe not for 20ga. If you can’t find it ask a dealer about Hastings barrels they should carry what you need.Great to see you suporting your sons interest in hunting.

Joe’s sporting goods has some great deals on new/used guns. I would check there.

    jrrendler,

The previous posters have pointed you in the right direction. One thing I can add…ALWAYS sight in a scoped gun before using it for big game. Just because it was right on the nuts the last time it was used does not mean it will be on the nuts the next time(season). Scopes can get bumped along with the recoil of some of the slug guns, which can be brutal btw. As hunters we need to make sure every season that our gun is shooting right where it should be, it’s the responsble thing to do, we want a clean, accurate kill every time. I sight my rifle in a few days before deer season every year and every year it does need some adjustments, more often than not they’re minor adjustments but, adjustments none the less. Good luck.

Ditto Birddog. If you remove the barrel, it very well may shoot differently the next time you mount that barrel. Do many variables to ensure consistency when you switch barrels.

I had a cantilever mount slug gun that never lost zero when removing it. I would NEVER hunt it without first checking it though, because it could change, but mine never did.

I would check on the Benelli Nova. I think they may offer what you are looking for.

I bought a B-Square saddle mount to but on my Winchester 1300. It was a lot cheaper than buying another slug barrel and it worked great. It would be the same type of mount that waterfowler has on the gun he is selling. I like it a lot and am glad I spent the 35 bucks on it rather than the $220+ on the new barrel.
