I need to purchase 2 rods that will be used to troll Lead Core. I will put Diawa LC27 counting reels on them.

I’ve heard fiberglass is a good choice for this application, but would like to hear other opinions.

    Thanks!!

Fleet Farm has a bunch of cheap rods $25 to $35 I would recommend a short 5.5 to 6 and possibly an 8 to 10 footer, that way you can run two lines with out having any tangles. You really do not need much!

You might want to look at the 47 size Daiwa reels. You won’t be able to get a full spool of lead on a 27. I have 47’s and barely get the full spool on. I use fiberglass Scheels Outfitter rods and have had very good success! Good Luck!!! 690reece

Personally, I think 27’s are too small for leadcore. And I don’t see any reason for a linecounter when running lead as I just count colors to get back to the depth I want. An 8 ft glass rod, like a downrigger rod works perfect.

I agree with Cory and Jon, the 27 reels are too small, the most you can get on there would be about 7-8 colors with no backing, the 47 will hold some backing and 10 colors. I think the line-counter reels are just a little easier to use, than counting and remembering numbers of colors. The rods I use are the Walleye Angler Signature Series WA 7’6″T-T. the rod telescopes into the handle, Med action.
    good luck.

I use the 8 foot Cabela’s glass downrigger rods and like them. In my opinion, a sub $30 rod is the way to go.

Glass rod is definately the way to go, much more forgiving, get one with a soft tip 6′ – 8.5′ medium is what I use.
I would go with a larger reel 47LC Diawa Sealine fits an entire spool of leadcore, just add about 10′ leader and your all set.
