As mom’s gotten older its gotten harder and harder to keep up her different flower places around the yard so today I thought I’d be nice and turn over the grass and dirt thats been invading. As she and I were standing amongst some peonies we were trying to save I heard geese coming towards me from the swamp, no higher up than the top of the trees. As I looked a little closer I could see three large birds flying towards us over the swamp but it was the one bring up the rear caught my attention, something was hanging well underneath it.

As they came over head, just clearing the power/phone lines, I realized the last bird had what must have been a two pound fish under it. I turned to mom and gave her nudge as I pointed up, it was an eagle.

I got a chuckle when she said, “hm, now you don’t see that every day.” Then I kind of wondered what the two geese were thinking bout then.

I’m sure the geese were relieved that the eagle already had a meal in hand.

I wonder if they had adopted him in some way? Wouldn’t that be funny?

Another bird sighting. Yesterday afternoon I was standing in the sun room, which looks down on our bird feeders, when a new bird came in. This sparrow hawk screams in, scattering all the small birds, then turns about three feet from the window and lazily floats by. It almost hung there out side the window for 30 secounds.
I got to get a camera and start carrying it all the time.

You aren’t kidding Ken and the more you have your eyes peeled for those shots the more you see them. I’ve kicked myself in the butt more than once saying why didn’t i have my camera with me because i know i’ll never get that shot again, leaveing my camera home after a peiod of time of not seeing anything and another great shot comes by and ya caught with no camera again. A 125 shutter speed gets most of the shots with small amounts of action and faster speeds get things to stop when theres more action like falling water or a goose flying by at a low level.

As the ice was going out in the bay in front of our home a few weeks ago I spotted an otter on top of the ice near a hole. I watched him go down the hole and return a few seconds later with what looked like a small perch. Just then, two Bald Eagles came soaring from the trees across the bay and landed on the ice a few yards from the otter. I then watched the otter pick up his catch and with a flip of his head, he tossed the fish in the direction of the eagles. One of the eagles picked up the fish and they both flew back to the trees on the other side of the bay. The otter went back down the hole, only to return a minute later with another fish. This interaction in and of itself was incredible. The thing that was even more incredible though is that this same scenario repeated itself at about the same time every day until the ice went out! What a video that would have made for a nature program.
