I’ve been following this for sometime.

Not to start a political debate or anything……..

But I will make one true statement……..

Major health companies, such as this for example have a 60% overhead. Meaning that only 40% of the money brought in is paid out for medical purposes and internal operating expenses to support those medical purposes. 60% goes to “overhead”.

Now, if a person can find the right investors and make the same product with only a 40 or 35 percent overhead, you will take in a huge share of the market and profit will be very lucrative.

However, being that the major companies are more/less “networked” in with each other, the majority are sitting at 60%.

Mike Hatch is going after them and all companies of such nature with the purpose of reducing the health insurance cost for the consumer. More/less trying to reveal “price gouging”……

My question, though, is this being done for altruistic reasons, or a run at being the Gov?

I do have UNH stocks, and they are taking a major beating. I try to follow some discussion boards on what is going on, specifically the issues of backdating options. The money that Mr. McGuire makes is almost unimaginable; however, he also has run a company that has made ‘mad money’ for the investor.

Having worked for Humana, I understand your stance. I just believe that it may be a bit more complicated.

Not to start a political debate but….

Keeping his name out there for a run for the governer. I wonder if all the ad agencies that got the tobacco money are going to contribute to his campaign?

this has nothing to do with this post other than healthcare.. but when i come across a john kerry supporter, i always point my thumb (like he did) and say ” I have a plan for healthcare)!! that spikes some interesting conversations….

It would be nice for him to do something about Health care, I just wish I was paying as much for GAS as I am for my Health care.

I can’t offer you any advice on what to do with your stock.

    However,
insight tells me he is doing this for political gain………Isn’t that what politics/government is all about these days?

Mike Hatch is for working people and the last I knew health care, retirement and a good living wage is what makes Minnesota the great state that it is. If you don’t know Mike Hatch you will soon. If we want to start a a political debate I would suggest making a new forum, I don’t think you would be stepping out of line to say someone needs to work on solutions for health care.

Fact of the manner is this:

What the health care organizations are doing is perfectly legal and is the founding theory of what makes this country survive: Right of a private business making capital gains.

The wonderful deal about all of it is that you can make your own health care organization and compete with these big companies!!!!!!!!!!

    Free enterprise!!!!!

I didn’t think his statement was all that political. If Mike Hatch is doing something that he feels helps to protect the consumers of Minnesota, he is doing what an Attorney General is supposed to do. Is he doing this for political gain? Probably. Is he doing it inside of the scope of his position? Yes. Sometimes people do their job. Sometimes their job puts them in the public eye. Would we rather him sit back and do nothing because he intends to run for Governor? I don’t think so.

    My opinions:

    1) Hatch is exploiting the health care industry for personal gain.
    2) Hatch would make a horrible governor.

A little off topic, but is anyone else getting sick of the flavor of the day phrase, “Talking Points”? Whoever said that in this thread, I am not directing ill-will towards you. It’s just becoming a pet peeve of mine.
