You ever sit at the launch waiting to put your boat in wondering what in the world some people are doing???

On Sunday I was sitting and watching people at the Ramesy County boat launch on White Bear Lake.

I wish I would have brought the cam corder. I would have won $10,000 bucks if I could have turned it in.

WOW is all I can say!!! I have not laughed like that in a long time!!!!

    Please expound.
I’m sure all of us would enjoy a laugh if you provide some of the details of what you saw.

I hit that launch Saturday. I’ll tell ya, that is not an easy access. The wash out for bigger boats is about 10 feet away from the dock making the dock useless. So, yes I can see people having trouble using it. Not to mention the ramp itself is covered in sand making it slick. Add that in with the fact 3 out of 4 boaters are out for their first trip I can see where it might take a while to get in or out.

That launch and parking lot could use some maintenence!

if you really want a good laugh go to the landing on the river in hastings in the summer, i swaer most of these people just came from the boat store and have no idea of what they are doing then throw a good currant at them and let the fun begin.
you may want to bring a lawn chair, cooler of beer, and a grill because this is a all day event.

Well there was a couple husband and wife ( I assume ) They had huge old fiberglass boat. Not sure of the make. But the thing was big and deep. For some reason the boat would not come off the trailer. So the old man yells to the lady ” Honey I will sit here and you jump in the truck and hit it the gas.” Well she did hit the gas with conviction.

The next thing we all witnessed was a huge boat come off the trailer front end flying up in the air and the rear end and the I/O slamming before the front end. Then the front end hit the ground so hard it cracked the hull pretty bad.

I was laughing so hard I was crying. I felt bad for the guy and the lady but it was pretty funny.

“I don’t care who you are that is funny right there!”

Imagine what Minnetonka is like this time of the year, especially this weekend with the crappie contest!!

Hidden Falls is trick on most days too. As you approach, the current is going downstream, but right before you get to the trailer there is an eddy that pushes you upriver.

I used to live w/in walking distance to the Spring Park access on Tonka. Last summer, I’d head down there a little before sunset (if I wasn’t on the lake of course), secure a spot on the bench and enjoy the show!

I can handle the idiots taking forever to lauch a boat, but at least learn how to back up a trailer 27 trips down the ramp before getting the boat in the water is killing me

Your right Jon that ramp is in rough shape!! But it is still fun to people watch

I never have a problem at that lake. You just cant pull up to close to the dock and lock it in 4×4 and you should be fine.

You can tell the people that duck hunt. They are the guys getting thier boats in and out quick.

Your right about hidden falls Dave. It is not to un common to see people trying to load up there boats there and completely miss the trailer. Seen one person put the side of his boat on the trailer there.

“There’s always a lot of entertainment value to be had at the boat ramp.” I always say. One day in mid-May at Minnetonka while waiting in line to launch we saw 3 young men trying to launch a good sized bowrider. Finally the pickup driver got out and asked the boat driver if he had removed the transom straps. “No” was the reply. So these “Rhoades Scholars” procede to wade into the water (mid-May=cold) and around behind the boat. One holds the back of the trailer up while the other goes under water and returns with first one strap and then the other. You just don’t get quality entertainment like that at a comedy club.

I was out fishing with the kids last weekend. We were fishing off the dock at the landing. Well along comes a newer Chevy pulling a brand new Bayliner. They proceeded to unhook trailer straps and the bow strap, they look like they know what they are doing as everyone has a job.
They are 30 feet from the ramp and they start up the inboard, warm it up by throwing it into gear, both forward and reverse. It ran dry for a good 3-4 minutes while they finish loading the boat. That motor ran even when they were backing the boat in.
I pulled my kids off the dock because I am thinking that this is not over yet. I was right after they got the boat launched the driver proceeded to drive the new boat right into the dock putting a 6 inch long 1 inch deep gash in the boat. A day at the landing can be entertaining to say the least.
Not that I never have had problems, one time on Mille Lacs we only took one rear strap off but that another story. Lets just say I was in the water while my pants were on the dock

I’m sure i gave some people a laugh one time. It was when i first got my liscence and i was out fishing like crazy. I was fishing from my 12ft v bottom and my 1962 5.5 Johnson. I decided i was going to try Sailorville one day, well i found out there was only one ramp open, and it was a gorgeous day. Well when i put on early in the day, there was no one else really there, didn’t have to wait to get on, well when i came off, there was at least an hour wait to get your boat on/off. The wind had picked up which pretty much forced me off the lake, even in the small bays and fingers that i was fishing. So here i am, all by myself, loading this boat on my trailer, nothing i hadn’t done before. Well the wind was so strong, by the time i got the boat on the trailer stright, the wind would blow it off. After two three times of this i was getting the feeling people were getting impatient, so i just winched the boat down really tight and pulled it off, when i got out to adjust it once i was up the ramp, i realized that the transom of the boat was higher than the bow because i had winched it so tight!

I also had another great moment this year. I just bought a new 14ft v-bottom and had it on my old trailer that was set up for a different boat. The bunks weren’t adjusted for this boat, so the boat was actually just riding on the rollers on the middle of the trailer. So i unhooked the boat, safety chain and all, as this is what i would do with my other boat, and proceeded down the ramp. Well soon as i hit the incline, the boat began to roll off the trailer and land lower unit first onto the ramp

Luckily no one was there to see, but what would have been even better to watch was the 140lb kid trying to lift a 14ft boat w/ a 35hp motor, back onto a trailer!

I too did that once, my friend did not tell me that he got a new trailer. He switched from a bunk to a roller

I will second the entertainment at the Hastings launch. The best of the best include dropping a boat off of the trailer, a smart guy had a roller trailer, and unhooked it before back down, luckily it was a pretty small boat, and 5 or 6 guys could pick it up and assist it back on the trailer. Guy was very thankful, and left as soon as we got the boat back on the trailer.

But the best was this big old tuna boat, must have been 20 years old, 25-30 footer. Guy forgets to put the plugs in, backs the boat in with a mini van. This guy is taking his sweet old time unhooking the boat, loading all the goodies in for a fun day on the water. Did I mention he forgot to put the plug in? Finally he jumps in the boat, he got wet feet. After a few curse words he jumps out of the boat, back into the mini van.
Well the ramp was wet and had some sand on it. Boat is filling with water, mini van can’t pull boat out. Many others are in line to use the ramps, this guy couldn’t back worth a crap and took up both lanes. I’m in the middle of the river laughing my rear off.
Finally this kind soul who was waiting to put his boat back on the trailer walks up, unhooks his trailer and hooks up to the mini van and assists him out of the launch. He got a kind response from the others waiting in line.

Being a guy who fishes by himself frequently, I try to launch and load by boat as quick as I can to get out of the way.

I usually help people at the launch weather they ask for it or not when they are struggling.

Last winter on Mille acs we were loading up our sleds and fish houses after a day of fishing. A couple of guys parked next to us were struggling putting a snowmobile on there trailer. I went over to help and afterward had a nice conversation with the two of them.

It ended up being Kooty and a buddy of his.
