I had wisdom teeth pulled Wednesday. One side is fine, other is throbbing and hurts like holy hey! What is dry socket and how will I know if I have it? I can see a hole where tooth came out, its pretty deep! Want to go fishing but the vicadin pretty much keeps me home!

If your a smoker, you might get dry sockets. The throbbing is from the novocaine wearing off. Take lots of Advil to stop the throbbing. Rinse with salt water and replace your gauze every hour or so.

Not a smoker and been following Docs orders to a tee! Salt water rinse, mouthwash, even brushed my teeth. No beer with vicadin and soft foods only, no doritos, tacos, jalepeno poppers or even pizza. This hurts worse than a flying 12 inch suick in the privates!

Wisdom teeth can be really painful. Dry Sockets have a terible smell, you’ll know if you have one. It took me about 2 weeks to get over my surgery, just hang in there.

Your teeth must have been impacted? You get dry sockets from sucking in with your lips. Cigs, straws etc. I was lucky as heck. I was eating pizza the same night. Glad I had it done and you will too.. Less teeth to worry about and your mouth will feel like it has more room.

Salt water is answer. I used it a lot others in family didn’t and suffered.
I had serious side affects from teeth for over a year before they figured out it was wisdom teeth causing them.

    Paul,

I had a dry socket and was miserable as well. I tried to fight through it, but finally told the doc I was in so much pain. He gave me some medication that I would soak a gauze in and stuff down the cavity where the tooth was. Problem solved.

Someone go pick him up !! Take him fishing !! He’s grounded by Vicadin !!! It’s an IDA emergency !! Call a cab to the boat launch !!!

Just got back from the dentist myself.. 4 more visits scheduled in the next 30 days.

I’m with Derek. Had all 4 of mine pulled when I was in the service at 10 in the morning. At noon I was out with friends eating pizza and drinking dark beer. Came home and took the pain pills and passed out until the next day. A headache and lots of pillow drool but no toothache.

Yes fish, I was nailed good on a missed hookset with a 12 inch suick! It is hard to explain the pain or what was worse, the initial hit or the hook extraction from the nuggets!
But…..this tooth thing is by far worse! Ive even thought of using an old western trick of packing it with chaw, but just about when I am ready to do that the vicadin wears off enough that I get my senses back. At this point I am sure I have bought an acres worth of salt from Utah, kept a drug rep working for another month and even shown a women how to really complain! I have a brilliant idea to sew the hole shut myself with fireline but I cant seem to coordinate a flashlight and a knitting needle while looking in the mirror. Any quacks out there need a quick side job? I’ll provide all the materials needed including a few beers before the job!

I had a case of dry socket when mine were removed. Take my word for it, GO GET IT LOOKED AT. I walked in to his office after being a tough guy for a week, and walked out in 10 minutes feeling like a million bucks. They packed the hole with some gauze with some good stuff on it. Better then a beer and pizza

Here I am…day 10 now and still having problems with dry socket in one tooth. Tomorrow is my 4th visit to oral surgeon. Needless to say I have been off the water for 11 days now. Getting kinda crabby and hard to live with. Boat goes out tomorrow regardless of outcome so if you read about a guy in a 16 foot flatbottom drifting aimlessly its probably me and my fishing partner Mr Vicadin. Could be worse though, I could have a jellyfish in my crack!
