I have been lurking on the site for about a month now and finally got signed up.

I am fairly new to the Minnetonka area and have fished on Minnetonka last year with limited success but plan on gaining more knowledge of the lake this year hopefully with some help from the people here. My parents also live in the Brainerd area so there will be allot of weekends up there on the big pond chasing the eyes and hopefully some bass too. Gull Lake, North Long and other lakes in the area all are going to be fair game this year too.

Oh back to the Minnetonka ice…..driving around highway 15 on the way home from work the lake was still covered in dark ice there was open water out about 20-30 feet off of the shore. I did not drive down to Spring Park bay where the Sherriff station is but have heard reports that it may be opened up there at any rate should have plenty of time to scope out some crappie spots before the Crappie contest

to all the people on the site!!

Go big or go home- did you make it out ice fishing in the brainerd area at all last winter. I lived on north long for 2 years while going to central lakes college and absolutely loved it. instead of studying each night, the roomate and I would head out walleye fishing, those were the days!!!

Welcome to the best fishing site anywhere!!

I grew up in the Brainerd area, so if I can help you out send me a PM, my father still lives on Gull.

    Welcome aboard GO!

    Do you have a boat?

If not, there are more than a few guys here that fish Minnetonka, maybe one or two of them will give you a shout get you out and help you with learning the lake.

I do not have a boat yet but was looking this Spring but may wait until next year I just bought a vehicle to pull a boat and now have no money for a boat. I was looking at Alumnicraft 165 Nav CS with a 90 4 stroke motor but fully equiped it was around 17K boats have gone up in the last few years. My brother lives close and has a boat and my dad has a boat in Brainerd. So I am the second wheel all the time Have not really looked at the G3 boats to see if they would have somthing similar.

As far as the brainerd area I have not fished it much yet since my parents just moved there from Fargo. I used to fish North Lida quite a bit when they lived up there. I know there are a ton of good lakes in the brainerd area and just need to get out and fish them this year.

I did get out ice fishing on the big pond for the big jumbos about 4 times this year with decent success not huge ones but allot of 10-11 inch fish.

You are right… there are no lakes in Fridley, just a river. But there are no fish in there either

I took that route home last night also. Spring Bay Park is the same as the rest of the lake. However, there was one guy out in a 12 footer by the Mound public launch doing his best to speed up the process. It was pretty funny, he would get the front end up on the ice and bounce through.

I’m guessing he didn’t make much progress.

A side note, Minnewashta, Zumbra & Virginia look to be about 40% open form Hwy 7.

I drive around the lake every weekday for work so I will let everyone know when it is open. The areas by the Marina’s have been getting bigger and bigger everyday.

Oh another good thing about this site is that it helps when I am sitting at my desk a wishin I was a fishin

I noticed Minnewashta, Virginia and Waconia are 98% ice free this morning. Panfishing this weekend possibly!
