I have a gift card to use and am planning on using it for a new digital camera. I have out grown my old one (Vivitar 3315) and am looking for better quality. What would be a good camera for under $200?

Cheri,
I think there are many on the market that will do a good job. We were in a similar position last fall, my daughter wanted a digital for her birthday, and to take baby pics. My wife had set a $200 limit. We saw several we liked, but my wife has a little more expensive Canon that she really likes for her scrapbooking stuffs, plus the daughter was familiar with it, so we went with Canon, I think it was a 520, but not sure of the number. If you are wanting for use on the water, I am impressed with the fact some Olympus are sealed against water damage.
I am also impressed with the pic quality and the viewing screen on the Sony models.
As i said in the start many to choose from, and many good ones. Decide what you want it to do and compare features on several models. I’m sure you’ll find what you are looking for. Good Luck

March 31, 2006 at 4:51 pm #434812HERE IS ONE THAT I WON AT A FUND RAISER AND I’M REALLY IMPRESSED WITH IT, RETAIL COST IS AROUND $200.00 WHICH INCLUDES THE PRINTER DOCK, ADDED A MEMORY CARD FOR I THINK AROUND $25.00 AND I CAN HAVE 175 PICTURES ON IT.
TAKES VERY NICE CLEAR PICTURES
SEND ME A EMAIL ADDRESS AND CAN SEND SOME PICTURES THAT I TOOK WITH IT.
March 31, 2006 at 6:36 pm #434846We have a 6.1mp Kodak and its too much camera for my use. The most frustrating thing is trying to “crop” the picture small enough to match the kilobitz criteria for posting pictures on this web site. The Canon PowerShot A510 with 3mp’s and manual controlls lists #1 on ConsumerReports best buy. The Kodak EasyShare CX7430 is #8 bestbuy and Kodak EasyShare Z700 is #2 but a little more$. I love being able to take the memory chip and going to Walmart’s picture center and plugging in only the pictures I want. Printing at home costs more-ink-paper. I wish we had the dock because we broke the little clip that holds the battery in from repeatedly taking it in and out. I remeber (alot like depthfinders) the camera companies throw the big #’s out there such as optical zoom 10x when digital zoom’s only 4 and more important. I can’t remember which one is more important and would research optical zoom vs. digital zoom again before I purchased. Shudder SPEED is very important to me also, along with the viewing window. Good Luck
