We finally got around to put up Ms. Cheri’s fishing shelf and I got to pick things out to fill my tackle box. Mom’s says she has too much stuff. But thats because mom doesn’t fish. I really liked the hat with the big fish on the front and Ms. Cheri said she has two so I now have a IDA hat to wear when I go fishing.
Great posts!
Hey, can you give me some advice? My 3 year old son will get a little kid’s pole. But what should I do for my 6 year old? Would she prefer a grown up rod or a little one too?
With Ms. Cher’s help I’ll try to help you.
Ms. Cheri gave me a little kids pole last year – a spiderman one. I liked it. But this year I am going on a real fishing trip with a guide and he said I should learn how to use a grown up pole because the walleyes would break my spiderman one. So Ms. Cheri game me an ultra lite to practice with first (in the yard) and then I got to use one of her bigger poles once I did well enough. Now I can practice with me new pole and give my brother my spiderman one (he always wants to do what i am doing). To help with casting and reeling back in, Ms. Cheri would tie on a heavy lure like a musky lure or a heavy sinker (no-roll 4oz) she said she got from BrianK. By the time my trip comes up in June, I’ll be ready. Hope that helps.
The gear looks great!
I got my son into a *Big Kid* fishing rod when he was 4.. He likes it because he got to pick it out.. he wanted the *blue one*… Okuma Fin Chaser.
Daddy likes his new rod too.. He doesnt get tangled often, no reels messing up, and he hooks and catches more fish with a rod capable of really fishing.. no cool spiderman logo, but he wouldnt trade it for anything, and even got really upset at 1st when I said I was going to get him another rod for other types of fishing.. had to make him understand he would still have his blue rod… then he was ok with it.
I think thats the answer to your question DaveB
walleyegirl,
You have obviously been a good girl, and done the things required to earn that equipment. You should be very proud.
Your advice is good too. I remember my son received his first ‘grown up equipment’ when he was old enough and learned to use it correctly. At that point his younger sister inherited his old equipment. I do remember it made my life easier, and our fishing trips more enjoyable. It was shortly after that that his sister caught her largest fish and it nearly broke that old pole
Keep us posted on your fishing adventures, and be sure and include pictures.
