Looking for a place in northern MN/WI to take the wife for a long weekend in June. Not too fussy but it needs to be clean and decent fishing is always a plus. Any suggestions?

Nodaks on Winnie might fit the bill. My wife and I took the same trip your speaking of. Assuming you have a boat. It’s big water.

Just north of Bemidji there is a little resort called “a place in the woods resort” on Turtle River Lake. All log cabins and very quiet. They have a good website.

This is a little off topic, but I would like to know what you Minnesotans think of the “north shore” area of Lake Superior? Every year on my way to Canada I look at this beautiful area and think it would be great for a long weekend with my wife. Can you fill four days with driving around looking at shops (gasp), walking trails, walking the shores, etc.? During late June when the lupines are blooming that area appears to be as close to heaven as you can get (to me anyway). Any thoughts from you guys?

Hey SM- I lived on the North Shore for 10 years. There is plenty of things to do. I reccommend stay in Tofte (Lutsen resort isn’t bad either) but in Tofte there is a great place I believe it is still the Blue Goose. Rent a roon overlooking the lake with an outside hot tub. Also bring your fishing gear and your boat there are some great lakes withing a half an hour for pretty much anything you would want to catch. Love2Fish.

Hey, thanks for the info Love2. There is a place right on the water, don’t know which town, but I believe it is called Blue fin Bay. It looks very nice, I’m sure it’s a couple hundred bucks a night. Don’t know if it’s worth that or not. Any tips/hints on other places to stay are appreciated.

The north shore is a “must do”. My wife and I used to go every year. Were down to every other now. It’s great there. The scenery is spectacular. We would hit small towns on the coast then duck into the woods and explore the limitless dirt rodes. Occasionally I would check for brook trout in streams we encountered. “Rolling Happy Hour” was one of our favorite customes as well.
Many times we went in the fall and included grouse hunting but only when the numbers were up. Mostly we stay at resort motels and occasionally camp. Everybody needs a little north shore once in a while.

SM- Bluefin Bay was the one I actually was thinking of. It is really not that expensive. You can stay non-lakeside for quite a bit less. As far as things to do you have got the Sawbill trail 1 mile up the road from Bluefin. Tons of lakes down the trail. THe Superior hiking trail also runs from Bluefin in all directions. I would highly recommend it.

Hey thanks for the info guys. The area does look fantastic. I’d wondered about the streams that dump into Superior, some do hold trout? I will definitely get her up there some time, the problem is giving up our northern WI trip and then my Canada trip after that. Gotta find a way to get one more trip in the month of June
