I’m heading up to Pakashkan in Canada later this summer (Aug). Anyone have any experience on this lake? It’ll be my first trip and the lake looks huge. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I was there for the first time last aug myself. Stayed at Paskashkan Lake lodge, cabins were OK, owner was nice but kind of clueless when it came to fishing. Fished mostly northerns during the day, walleyes seemed to only bite early morning and just before and after dark. Had our best luck rigging crawlers in 10-20 ft near rock or cabbage, and bobber fishing after dark. Lake is basically divided into three lobes, we spent most of our time in the eastern lobe. There are a few cabins there but we had the lake mostly to ourselfs, try around the small island in the middle of the bay. that was our best spot. Nice lake, we intend to try it again but the road into it is terrible. If you bring your own boat put rock guards on your truck or your boat and trailer will take a huge beating.

I have been there a couple of years in the late 90s…but we were there in late May or early June when fishing is different. We did alot of fishing on the south end in a shallow bays where a river came into the lake. Water was warmer there(there was ice on some parts of the lake). Slip bobbers for walleyes and slow cranks for pike. One of the guys I went with caught a 33″ walleye!! The north east end is really good also but kindof a cruise from the cabin. Smokercraft is right about the drive in….45-50 miles of dirt roads that were no better than logging roads in some areas. Over all good trip though!

ps:be sure to bring enough bait. We ran out and had to buy minnows from the lodge. $5/dozen and we ended up with exactly 12 minnows including a variety of small perch, dace and sticklebacks.
