My daughter just called from Carbondale, Il. where she is a senior at SIU and coast Guard Reservist. Says she just got back from a local pond, and only caught about 10 crappies and one small bass….temp about 65, sky sunny.
Been snowing all day here. Cold front on the way after the snow. I can be in Carbondale in six hours. Crab orchard Lake, Lake of egypt, Kinkaid Lake for big muskies over 200 lakes within an hours drive of Carbondale where it is 65 and sunny. Methinks its time for a road trip to the old alma mater.

I know what your saying Ted. Thats about right with the temps i’ve seen in the past too. If i compare those approx temps and changes when going south of me its about the same. Where i live in Cedar rapids it is the dividing line and has been on the warm and cold temps wheather its going to be snowing or raining alot of times. When i used to rabbit hunt alot down in southern Iowa i used to leave here and it would be snowing, get to Iowa City 20 miles south of me and it would be a mix. Get to Washington abother 25 miles and it would be light rain or drizzle then another 40 miles south of there to where we were going to hunt and it would be partly cloudy or clear. Coming back home we would see the diffrent weather all the way up from freezing rain to snow. Going north of me a ways depending on where the front is and its almost always snow. 40 miles north of here and theres nowhere near the freezing rain that there is just south of me. Right now its snowing lightly and melting when it hits the ground, go north another 40 miles which isn’t very far and its sticking. I’ve been watching all the reports from everyone here on the site for the last two years and i think the 100 mile per week mark is pretty close and theres about a 10 to 15 degree diffrence between me and the Missouri border and about 10 to 20 degrees between me and the twin cities. Springs almost here finially and i need a good shot like everyone does and this is march and a person knows with this month it can do anything. Seen some very big snows in march in the past. Its going to be in the mid to upper 30’s through next wednesday then its going to hit the 40’s, this time i think springs just around the corner for good.
