Seat bases pulling thru the floor

Anyone ever had problems with your seat base screws loosening up and pulling thru the plywood floor?
My fishing buddy weighs about 250 lbs. and is wreaking havoc on one of my seat bases. It seems the screws work themselves loose, then end up srtipping the threads. Once the threads are stripped your done for.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Thanks

Pick up some stainless steel machine bolts and some threaded inserts to match. The inserts I am talking about are the ones with the “teeth” that bite into the wood to keep them from falling out, and to keep them from spinning. Put the inserts in from underneath and pull them up to support the seat base. I don’t think they sell SS inserts, but they will never be seen, and the boat will problably be gone before you have that problem.

    Good Luck

How old is the floor in your boat?
When this started happening to me, it was because it was time to replace the floor.
Otherwise try a steel plate under the floor and bolts in the seat base through the floor and into threaded holes in the steel plate. I might have one spare steel plate laying around with treaded holes already in it. I’m in North St Paul. Let me know if you’re interested.

We purchased a 1990 16′ lund and noticed seat bases were loose ,the following winter I refloored it and when I was done putting the carpet on I installed seat mounting plates on each base .I just used a square piece aluminum roughly 1″wider than the base was and itwas about 3/32″ aluminum plate . then pre drilled holes for the base screws ..been 3 yrs now and still tight and my brother all 310 lbs of him sits in the seats also …BUt you have to remove and redo floor 1st..Sounds to me likes its time anyways.. good luck

    KJK,
I had the same thing happen to my drivers seat. Here’s how I solved the problem. I removed my seat base, picked up wood dowels (sp?) from Home Depot, the dowels were about 1 1/2 inches long, and the diameter was a little bigger than the screw hole. Used a little elmers glue and hammered the dowels flush with the floor. Drilled pilot holes and put the base back on. Worked great.

Wall anchors work good for stripped out screw holes. Put a little silicone in the hole when you put in the new screws to help slow the future rot.

In the long run, its much more work, but your far better off replacing the screws with bolts. Use lock nuts so they cant come loose and back it with large washers or a piece of aluminum.

I have some heavy friends also. I dont have problems with the bases anymore.. but they are hard on the back of the chairs!
